Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Peebles, Mrs. Stewart Cox, Colborne, spent Sunday at Bowmanville, guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Brock. Mr. Charlie Harnden, Cobourg, visited at the home of his sister, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Peebles. Mrs. James Palmer is a patient in General Hospital, Cobourg, undergoing surgery. We wish for her a speedy recovery. Mr. Bill Joice and Mr. John Borham spent the week-end at the home of Bill's parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. Joice. Mrs. Norman Turk, Mrs. Len Turk and children visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. Joice on Saturday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Nesbitt, Steven and Peter, Port Hope, spent the week-end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Verne Tapley. Mr. Keith Flanders, Weston, spent Saturday at the home of his brother, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Flanders. Mrs. George Bishop is spending a week's vacation at the home of her son, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne McAndrews, Ottawa. Mr. Harold Marshall, Toronto, spent the week-end at his home| Mr. Jim McKenzie is spending a week's vacation at his Mr. and Mrs. M. Dunn and family, Toronto, spent Sunday with Mrs. Winnifred Robinson. Mr. Charles Hall spent Sunday at. Deer Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Henry May and family visited at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil May, Castleton, on Saturday. Lake Ontario suddenly warmed up, especially along the lake front at Lakeport. Thursday afternoon of last week three young boys went for a swim, of course without their mother' consent. Some of the onlookers shivered and shook to think of them in the cold water, but the boys reported the water was "just great" and they were none the worse for their first dip of the season, so several more tried it out on Saturday. Mrs. A. Pettibone, Mrs. Neil Fiddick and daughter, Elaine, Mrs. H. Oke visited at the home of Mrs. Wm. Greenwood, Kendal, Sunday. Bobbie Hall, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hall, enjoyed the trip to Toronto last week, sponsored by the Telegram, for the "Tely" carriers. Friday evening he attended the stock car races at the C.N.E. and was an over night guest at the King Edward Sheraton Hotel. Saturday morning the boys went on a tour of The Bank of Commerce, rode the subway, visited Casa Loma and old Fort York. Later on they went on a shopping spree and on the return home on Saturday night the bus driver stopped at a road-side park for refreshments. Bobbie reported a wonderful time. Much credit is due the boys who deliver papers, stormy weather or sunny, the papers are delivered in good time in Lakeport. This includes the "Star" carriers also, Donald and Tommy May. On Friday evening last a pleasant evening was spent at Lakeport Elimentary School. The entainment being progressive euchre and dancing sponsored by the Recreation Committee. Winners for euchre were ladies' high score, Mrs. H. Day; ladies' lone hands, Mrs. R. Joice; ladies' low score, Mrs. Delbert Peebles; men's high score, (Mrs.) A. Mackie; men's lone hands, Mr. Verne Tapley; men's low score, (Mrs.) Eric Palmer. Mr. Delbert Peebles held the winning ticket on a cigarette lighter. Tasty refreshments were served. Proceeds are for recreational purposes. Miss Anita Flanders is teaching in Agincourt Public School for two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Rex DeLong and son, Barry, spent Saturday at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. Joice. The W.A. of the Shiloh United Church met at the home of Miss Nellie Mutton on Wednesday afternoon, May 25th. There were nine members and one visitor present. The worship period was taken by Mrs. John Dunk who introduced it with hymn 311, "O Love That Will Not Let Me Go". Her theme was "Freedom in the Spirit". She closed the period with hymn 148, "Breathe on Me, Breath of God", and pray- The business part was in charge of Mrs. Lawrence Mutton and plans were completed for the Afternoon Tea on June 1st at Mrs. Lawrence Mutton' also a holiday coin bag and travelling apron. Each person also requested to bring her contribution for the sale booth at the Garden Party to the next meeting. The programme was in charge of Mrs. Lyle McCullough. This consisted of several very interesting readings. The meeting closed with a Benediction pronounced by the President. The President opened the meeting with theme song and prayer. Mrs. John Cochrane gave a good paper on the Creation. Several business matters ere then discussed. Mrs. Lome McDonald was in charge of the programme and had several short readings given from the book "Something to Live By", written by Dorothea Kopplin. The Benediction was then pronounced and a lovely lunch served by the hostess and committee. Standards of white flowers and lighted candles decorated the white-carpeted altar of Chalmers United Church for the wedding of Miss Lois Gertrude Waite and Dr. Ralph Stuart Lewis at 4 p.m. on May 21st. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Matthew J. Waite of Kingston and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan E. Lewis, of Kingston. Rev. W. F. Banister officiated at the afternoon ceremony with Glenn George playing the wedding music. The soloist was Miss Sally Hayward. The bride was given in marriage by her father. Her wedding gown was of pure silk white bombazine with the front panel sprinkled with bouquets of re-embroidered, hand-run Alencon. Soft pleats at the hips extended into a chapel train. Her fingertip veil of white nylon tulle was held by a seed pearl Tiara. Her bouquet was of gardenias with stephanotis and ivy leaves. Miss Madeline Corry of Kingston was maid of honour. Bridesmaids were Miss Jean Roy of Ottawa and Miss Jacqueline Batzold, cousin of the bride, from Kingston. The Woman's Association met Thursday, May 26th, at the home of Mrs. Clarence Nelson with Mrs. W. Covert, President, in the chair. Mrs. Hervie Welton read the Scripture selection from Romans and followed by a meditation by Mrs. Covert and pray- Minutes were read and approved. Correspondence read and Treasurer's report given, Mrs. Covert gave the highlights of the W.A. Rally held at Port Hope in April. Discussion followed on ways to raise money and 3everal , ideas were approved. Flowers were planned by the members for the month of June. Four ladies joined. The June meeting will be held June 23rd (one week later account of W.M.S. Rally on 1 15th). Mrs. Lawrason extended an invitation, Mrs. J. C. McKague, convener, with "Patience" as roll call. The roll call on "Give" was well answered. Mrs. G. Papineau opened her programme with hymn 15, followed by a reading based on "Songs of Solomon". Mrs. E. Jones read Lessons on Flowers. Mrs. W. J. Tait read Message of Springtime, Mrs. G. Welton read Safe Driving and Corinthians, Mrs. J. C. McKague read A W.A. Garden. A May contest was won by Mrs. R. Lawrason. Mrs. Papineau closed the programme with prayer. The President thanked the hostess, conveners and lunch committee and also all who helped at the wedding recently. A moment's silence was then observed in memory of Mrs. A. A. Kemp, who served faithfully and well as Treasurer for the past ten years. A delicious lunch was served by Mrs. G. Welton and Mrs. E. Bush. designed with a bell-shaped hemline and matching picture hats and accessories. They carried crescent bouquets of yellow shastas, blue cornflowers, and white snowdrift 'mums. Roy Lewis from Nelson, B.C., was best man for his brother. Ushers were George Waite, brother of the bride; Dr. Barry Wilson, Dr. George Gray of Kingston and Lome VanLuven of Napanee. Following the ceremony a reception was held in MacGilli-vray-Brown Hall. The mother of the bride wore a Dior blue lace sheath dress with a jacket and a rosepetal hat and matching accessories. A corsage of two-toned pink rosebuds enhanced her outfit. The groom's mother wore a midnight blue dress with star-mist hat and gloves and a corsage of deep For the wedding trip to the Eastern United States the bride wore a blue wool suit with navy and white accessories and a corsage of pink rosebuds. On their return the couple will live in Kingston. Out of town guests attended the wedding from Nelson, B.C., Baie Como, Que., Trinidad, Cornwall, Montreal, Toronto, Lindsay, Peterborough, Niagara Falls, Colborne and Napanee. At the Rectory at Cobourg on Friday evening, Marguerite Elizabeth Latimer, eldest daugh-of Mr. and Mrs. George Lati-r of Colborne became the bride of Bryan Patrick Hart, son of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Hart of Cobourg. The ceremony was performed by Rev. J. P. Collins. The bride wore a mint green boucle suit with white accessories and pink corsage. The bride was attended by VIrs. Percy Smith of Whitby ivho was attired in a beige dress with aqua accessories and wore a yellow corsage. The groom was attended by Mr. Percy Smith of Whitby and Alex Rutherford, Jr., c Colborne, signed the register. They left for points west o their honeymoon and the happy couple will take up their residence on King St. East. Recently the staff of the Bell Telephone Company where Betty is employed presented her with a beautiful mirror. On Saturday evening several members from the bowling team from Cobourg that Bryan bowls with called on Betty and Bryan and gave them a lovely electric coffee maker. Warkworth Tractor Club Meeting The Warkworth Tractor Club held a meeting at Mr. F. L. Grills on Tuesday evening, May 17th. There were thirty-eight people and twenty-eight members present. Mr. Ralph Gregg, Engineering Extension Special from Lindsay conducted the meeting and gave a very interesting talk on farm and tractor safety. Mr. John Cockburn, summer Assistant Agricultural Representative and Floyd Grills, Club leader were also present. The following were elected to the different offices: President, Bill Metcalf; Vice President, Watson; Secretary, Bill Woof; Press Reporter, Bob Chapman. The meeting was adjourned till a later date in June. COLBORNE PERSONALS The Rev. F. W. Taylor is attending the meetings of the Bay Quinte Conference being held in Queen's University, Kingston, from Tuesday to Friday, i Mr. and Mrs. Walter Keetch of Kingston and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Broughton of Stoney Creek were Sunday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Reid. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Reed and family, also Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Reed were Sunday guests of Mr. Alfred Reed who is a patient at Kingston General Hospital. Mrs. D. R. Bleecker of Fox-boro spent the week-end with Mrs. Chas. Teal and family, while Messers. Chas Teal, Don Bleecker and Wm. Henderson spent three days at Charleston Lake building a cottage for Mr. Bernard Fox. Norman Taylor of Waterloo and Fred Taylor of Pickering, sons of the Rev. and Mrs. F. W. Taylor and Don Hauser of Durham spent the holiday week-end at the United Church parsonage. Mr. and Mrs. L. Beamish spent Sunday in Toronto with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. H. Harnden spent Sunday in Toronto with Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Routley. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ferguson and family, Shiloh, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Delbert McLaughlin. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Sutter and Richard spent Sunday and Monday with relatives in Kitchener.
