Mrs. Ambrose Dillman called l Mrs. J. Snape on Monday morning. Meetings of Haldimand Township Council Haldimand Township Council met at Fenella on June 2nd and Grafton on June 8th. All members were present. A good number of communications were read and disposed of. Applications for building permits were received from Lloyd George and J. O. McCrim mon and in both cases permits were granted. Mr. George Pearse tendered his resignation as a member of the Board of The Haldimand Memorial Community Centre and also as a member of the Haldimand Recreation Committee. His resignation was accepted with regret. •. Gregg addressed the Council and explained the var-phases of farm ponds and other methods of water conser- Contract No. 6(M which was awarded to E. F. Marston Construction Co. for the "Usher Bridge" was extended to include e "Hortop Bridge" on the me general terms. Mr. Clifton Rogers was appointed as "Live Stock Valuator" in place of the late Eldridge Sherwin. The Board of the Haldimand North School Area waited on the Council relative to their proposal to erect a new two-room school and received the assurance of the Council that they would endorse this proposal if and when the Board complied with all the requirements of the Ontario Department of Education and the Ontario Municipal Joard. General accounts for $2,523-2 and road accounts for $13,-120.24 were presented and pass- l. Council then adjourned to meet at Burnley on July 7th, at 7.30 p.m. Gregor presented Mrs. R. Simpson with a gift in appreciation of her faithful service as Secretary. Current Events were given by Mrs. A. Wills. Mrs. Deviney reported on her work with the girls of the 4-H Club. The girls are taking a Garden Club project again this summer. It is "The Preservation of Vegetables". The next regular meeting of the W.I. is the Girls' meeting on July 6th at Mrs. J. Devineys. Mrs. W. Rutherford then gave a report on the District Annual and a humourous reading. Mrs. J. Deviney was convener for the day and the topic was "Survival of the Small Farm". She read a verse entitled "Happiness in Your Life". We were honoured to have as guest speaker, Mr. R. Banbury, who gave us a talk on the future of the family farm. He said that a few years ago farming was a way of life, now it has become a business. Mrs. Deviney thanked Mr. Banbury for his talk and presented Mrs. Banbury with a very pretty corsage. The meeting closed with the Queen after which a social half hour was spent and a delicious lunch served by the committee. The June meeting of the Wicklow-Vernonville W.I. was held at Vernonville United Church. Mrs. Usher, the President, opened the meeting with "Thought for the Day", followed by the Ode and Lord's Pray-Roll call was "Your Favourite Season on the Farm and Why". It seemed that the majority of the ladies preferred spring, with its promise of good things to come. Our new Secretary, Mrs. F. Bilcox, read the minutes of the last meeting. It was decided to attend the "Eat to Live" workshop to be held in the fall. Mrs. A. Wells, Mrs. E. Smith, Mrs. J. Deviney, Mrs. N. Usher, Mrf A. Partington and Mrs. R.
