Mrs. Viva May attended the funeral service of Mr. and Mrs. Clare Palmateer. at Havelock on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Winter and daughter, Betty, Academy Hill, visited at several homes in the village on Sunday and were supper and evening guests of her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Henry May. Mr. and Mrs. John Russell, Toronto, spent the week-end with her mother, Mrs. Winnifred Robinson and their son, Randy. Messrs. Ray Blakely, Alf Reed, Wm. Sheldrick, Colborne, and Wm. Buck, Saskatchewan, called on Mr. D. Orrock on Sunday. Mr. Buck and Mr. Orrock worked together packing apples several years ago. Master Carman Baggaley returned home after spending several days at the home of his sister, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Turk, Baltimore. Mr. and Mrs. John O'Rourke were guests at the Killen-Dug-gan wedding which took place in Sacred Heart Church Peterborough, on Saturday. Mr. Kil-len is a brother of Mrs. O'Rourke. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Moore and family, Castleton, visited at the home of her mother, Mrs. Viva May, Saturday. Visitors on Tuesday were her daughter, Mrs. Harold Turk and son, Terry, and Mr. Robert Turk, Baltimore. Miss Isobel Nicholl, Toronto, spent the week-end at her home and guests were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Murray, Margaret and John, Toronto. Mrs. Ray Mitchell, Sharon and Philip, Harrowsmith, Mr. Wm. Archer and friend, Bowmanville, spent the week-end at the home of their sister, Mr. and Mrs. R. Joice. Mr. Archer and friend returned home with Mrs. Mitchell for a few days. Joice on Sunday. \ While walking the beach at Lakeport one day last week, two young boys, Reggie Cherry and Randy Oke, found two dead Sea Gulls, each bird had been banded. Inglis (Teacher) Colbright Calf Club The regular meeting of the Colbright Calf Club was held on Wednesday, July 13th, at the farm of Lyle Chatten, Colborne. John Cockburn showed the members how to make a rope halter, the rope being supplied free of charge to first year it bers and being sold to any other interested members. The group then judged a class of Holstein The business part of the meeting was held at the house where up-coming fairs and judging competitions were told of. Points to remember when preparing the calf for fair day were brought up by Mr. Cockburn. When all problems had been thrashed out lunch was served. The next meeting will be held at the farm of George McMas-ter, Trenton, July 25th. OBITUARY WILLIAM ERNEST FOX A life-long resident of Cobourg, William Ernest Fox, 38 Havelock Street, died at the Cobourg and District General Hospital on Friday, June 24th, following an illness of three weeks. Mr. Fox was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Fox of Cobourg. Mr. Fox received his education at St. Michael's School and Cobourg Collegiate. In 1914 he enlisted in the Cobourg Heavy Page Three Battery under the command of the late Colonel O'Dell. Following his war service he entered the grocery business in partnership with his father. In later years he served as a commissionaire at 26 C.O.D. He was a member of St. Michael's Church and the Holy Name Society. Mr. Fox is survived by a sister and two brothers, Mrs. Rex Fleming and Edward Fox, Cobourg, and Gerald Fox, Colborne. The funeral service took place at St. Michael's Church on June 27th, and was conducted by Father J. P. Collins and Father J. T. Pearson. Interment was in St. Michael's Cemetery, Cobourg. Honour Grafton Couple The home of Mr. and Mrs. R. Joice, Lakeport, was the scene of a very happy occasion on Sunday when Mr. and Mrs. Jack Archer, Grafton, were honoured at a belated 25th wedding anniversary celebration. A buffet luncheon, including four angel food cakes, nicely iced and decorated with pink roses and doves and anniversary greetings, was served from a long table with white linen cloth centred with a beautiful bouquet of snap dragons, on the spacious lawn. Mr. and Mrs. Archer were taken completely by surprise. They were presented with a platform rocker and from their two daughters a bouquet of pink and red roses for mother and a boutonniere for father. The guests numbered fifty-five, from Toronto, Oshawa, Bowmanville, Port Hope, Baltimore, Grafton and Harrow-Mrs. Archer is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Taylor, Grafton, and Mr. Archer is a brother of Mrs. R. The following are excerpts from THE DOG TAX AND THE CATTLE, SHEEP AND POULTRY PROTECTION ACT. R.S.O. 1950 Chapter 107 and Chapter 30, 1959, and Haldimand Township BY-LAW No. 69. (1) "Owner" of a dog includes any Person who possesses or harbours a DOG. (2) Every Persom in each year shall procure from the Assessor a Tag for each Dog, which must be securely fixed on the Dog at all times until a Tag foir'the following year is procured. (3) Every Person who fails to purchase a Tag shall be guilty of an 'offence and liable to a Penalty of $10.00. (4) WHEN DOGS MAY BE KILLED. ANY PERSON MAY KILL A DOG (a) That is found Killing or Injuring cattle, sheep or poultry. (b) That in a Township or Village is found between sunset and sunrise straying from the Premises where the Dog is habitually kept. (c) That is found straying at any time, and not under proper Control upon premises where Cattle, Sheep or Poultry are habitually kept. (5) The Statutes of Ontario, 1950, as amended 1957, provides a Dog shall be deemed to be running at large when found in a highway or other public place and not under the control of any person. (6) Every owner of a Dog Who allows it to run iat large contrary to the regulations made under this section, is guilty of an offence and on summary conviction is liable to a fine of not more than $50.00.
