The meeting opened by singing hymn 13, "Blessed Assur- The Devotional period was conducted by Mrs. Gordon MacDonald whose subject was Gratitude. "How few of us remember to be grateful to God for all his mercies", said Mrs. MacDonald. The Secretary, Mrs. Stuart Haynes, read the minutes and called the roll which was answered by a verse from Scripture. Mrs. Morton read an interesting paper about Missions. She spoke of the necessity for us to fully support our mission work if we want to obey Christ's express command, "Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature". Rev. R. K. Harris "Now I say, that the heir, as long as he is a child,- differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all; but is under tutors and governors until the time appointed by the Father." Galations 4:1, 2. Earlier this month we watched our children return to school for another term. It was only a short time ago that they were eagerly planning and preparing for their summer vacation, and now it is over and they are back once again to their studies. Many who had completed last year successfully were eagerly looking forward to the new things of this year; new rooms, new desks, new classmates, new teachers and new lessons. Others who didn't make the grade returned with new hope and determination that this year they would apply themselves and not have these same lessons to repeat another year. Many if not all are looking forward to that last final graduation when there will be no need to return to school for they will have all the learning that school can give them. As I watched my eldest son eagerly start out for his first day in the second grade this year, I could not help but think of how my own school days were so far behind me, and then I was brought up short by the scripture I have quoted passing through my mind. Surely the school-days of the Christian are not behind him, for we are all in the School of God. Through Bible study and the preaching of the Word in our churches we imbibe much theory or teaching on Christian It was decided at this meeting that the Ladies' Aid of the church would pay for the church steps which have recently been built. living. Now any teacher will tell you the lesson is not really learned until it can be put into practice. James says, "Be ye not only hearers of the Word, but doers also," James 1:23. When we have received much of God's Word through whatever means God sees fit to send it to us, then He tests us upon what we have learned. We will find adversities, heartbreak and various circumstances coming into our lives to give us an opportunity to put into practice what we have learned. However, don't think because you have just come through a test that there won't be anymore tests or adverse circumstances. Just as our children's schooling of last year has prepared them for the more advanced and difficult schooling of this year so has yesterday's testings prepared us for tomorrow's more advanced and diffiicult testings. Of course what is true in the natural is also true in the spiritual, for if you do not learn the lesson well enough and pass the test you will have to repeat the course. I believe that our reference scripture would also imply that even as our children eventually reach a mature place of graduation and can be launched out upon their own resources so do God's children or heirs eventually reach a place of maturity through a life of hardship and constantly proving God equal to any situation which may come into their lives. Not that our days of learning have ended for they never end either in the spiritual or in the natural, but instead of walking under tutors and governors appointed by the Father, we can walk in sweet communion and fellowship with Him as His Son. The meeting closed with a hymn and the benediction. A dainty lunch was served by the hostess and a social hour was enjoyed. Anniversary Services at ST.
