Mrs. William Scott was hostess for the September meeting of the Colborne Women's Institute on Tuesday, the 13th, with Mrs. Alec Mackie, 1st Vice-President, in the .chair. ' | The meeting opened with'the Ode and Collect followed by the reading and approval of' the minutes of the July meeting. Mrs. Mackie, who organized the very successful bus trip to Stratford to see "A Midsummer's Night Dream", reported a profit of $15.00 on the trip. A' number of "thank-you" notes were received for fruit, flowers, cards and visits received by our shut-ins. Cards for birthdays v babies were passed around to be signed by all present. Mrs. Harry Rush, who has been supervising the gathering and packing of clothing for the Unitarian Service Committee for layettes for Refugee Camps and children in other lands, read a letter of thanks and appreciation from Dr. Lotta Hitchman-ova. There is another carton, partly filled, for which contributions would be appreciated. The Short Course sponsored by the Colborne W.I. will be "Sandwiches for Every Occasion" to be held on Monday, October 24th. Mrs. J. A. Cor-byn will represent Colborne at the Belleville Area Convention next month. Convener's reports. Mrs. Cor-byn for Historical Research stated that the first known dieter was an Englishman by the name of Banting who lived in London several hundred years ago. For Current Events she reported on the Canadian Standing in the Olympics. For Citizenship and Education, Mrs. Mackie read a short article on I Simmons! The quilt committee had all ticket stubs and money on hand for the quilt and the winning ticket was drawn by Mrs. Guthrie, a visitor. The Dresden Plate Quilt went to Joan Greer, daughter of Mrs. Barney Hos-kins. It was decided to hold a tea and sale of home baking and needlework on Saturday afternoon, October 29th. The Rolt Call, "What I want most out of life", brought both light and serious replies, those who dread September and its sneezes, one member wished that everyone would keep the ragweed cut. Most wished for good health, good friends, ighbours and some i modicum of wealth to go with them. Another wished fo greater faith in God and other that she had the gift of healing. A senior member wanted the use of alcohol confined to clubs and lounges, etc., and kept out of homes. Women with children and grandchildren asked only for a safe peaceful world which they can grow and thrive. Mrs. Stewart Cox brought in hearing aid which had been donated for the Golden Plough »e. A pair of little old fashioned glasses for the Barnum House Museum was given by rs. J. Evely. Our variety programme consisted of favourite poems and readings, personal experiences a contest conducted by Mrs. Mackie. With everyone wearing corsage for the occasion, this as a very festive meeting. Mrs. Guthrie and Miss Enid ;rs acted as judges and awarded the prize for the prettiest corsage to Mrs. H. McLaughlin who wore a spray of flame gladioli. At the close of the meeting, Mrs. Mackie thanked our hostess, Mrs. Scott and the lunch committee for their hospitality. Curling Club Anyone who is interesting in Cruling please contact Cecil Nobes, Director of Recreation, Box 201 Colborne, phone 406 before October 1. The town has granted the Recreation Committee use of the Canadian Can-ners building in East Colborne for Recreation activities. Registrations will be limited as there is only room for two rinks at present. A general meeting will be held later to elect officers and darw up a schedule for the coming season.
