The last scripture reference given was first found by the pastor's wife, who has attended Emmanuel Bible College, so it was decided that Emmanuel Bible College won by slight margin. There were sixty-six present at the morning worship service, at which Rev. C. A. Berry spoke on the theme, "The Church". Shantz Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Psalm 139:23-24. Many High School students will be writing examinations in the near future, the purpose of which will be to determine where they stand academically. David, the psalmist, also faced examinations in the 139th Psalm, when he placed himself before the Examiner, Almighty God from whom nothing is hid, to be assessed in his spiritual life. When a person submitts himself to an academic examination, the erroneous ideas and false conceptions of facts will be pointed out, for this reason exams are good for every one of us. The Exam with which David concerned, is the spiritual amination, to determine the possibility of harbouring things in his life and thoughts which not pleasing to God. One of the great principles of the learning process, is principle of association and the building upon previous knowledge. In the 139th Psalm, we find David musing with former examinations, when he says, (v. 1) "Thou hast searched me, and known me". Included in this statement we find that David was subjected to the spotlight of God before, and David acknowledges from the beginning that the Examiner is much superior to him. With reference to a former searching in his life by God, David speaks of the Omniscience of God. He admits, that God is all-knowing for He knows all about his steps, his thoughts, and his speech, regardless if they be good or evil. Realizing that he cannot grasp or attain the knowledge that God possesses, David still asks that God search him. Next, David dwells upon the omnipresence of God. "Whither shall I go from thy spirit? wither shall I flee from thy presence?" (v. 7) If David wer ascend up to the heavens, God is there, and if David were to live a debased and immoral life, the Eye of God still sees him, and the acts of his life. Nothing that the phesence of God is ever with him, regardless of where he may go, David muses, "Surely the darkness shall cover me" (v. 11) but again he finds that God is not hindered by darkness and He sees the acts and the thoughts of his heart. God was with David from the time of his conception, before his body was fully formed, God saw all of his life and development. The thoughts of God were precious to David and of great value, for throughout his life many times he was kept from sin because of the conciousness of God. David does not speak with God only for what he benefits thereby, but notice how David allies himself with God, He hates sin as God hates sin, he loves the sinner but hates his sins, he wills to do God's will, and he counts the enemies of God as his enemies too. The enemies are hated by David, yet, he grieves over the fact that they are rising up against God. What a picture of a Christian who hates the sins of loves the sinner. David comes to the place where he wants God to search him. It is refreshing to note that David does not ask man to examine him. Man is unable to see because of the mote which is in his own eyes. Again, Man cannot judge another man for mankind cannot help being partial, prejudiced and biased to some extent. Wisely David appealed to the One who has power to kill and destroy both the body and the soul (Matt. 10:28) rather than to men who have power to kill the body only. Finally, the examination gets underway. "Search me", not my neighbour, nor my competition in business, but ME. David asked God to search his conduct before God and his fellowmen, Even those things which offend the brother who is weak faith, presenting a stumbling block to his path. The outward acts, secret or known, were placed under the scrutiny of Go-d. David did not stop with the outward acts, for he knew that God looketh upon the heart and he wanted to be sure that his thoughts, intents and desires where right before Him. "See if there be any wicked way in me". Everyone should be concerned about any wicked ways in their hearts for the Scriptures tell us that from the heart come "Evil thoughts, murders, adultries, fornications, thefts, false witness and blasphemies", Matt. 15:19. Wisely David applies the proverb, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure", stopping sin right in the bud. Even the sins of the character along with the sins which result from a careless, foolhardy attitude to life, David wishes to have known and corrected. All possibilities of sin, the Examiner is to inspect and deal with them according to His mercy. But this is not all, although many Christian people hope to have eternal life based on some past experience of God's forgiveness of their sins, David asks to be led, "in the way everlasting". The very purpose of examinations is not just that we may know wheae we have failed but that we may correct or he corrected of our error and not fail again. The spiritual examinations which David desired were not only that he might be forgiven but that he might be led in the way to Everlasting Life. If there was a tendency to sin, God was beseeched to lead him away from it. Just as our students will soon see wherein they lack and have fallen short, so we must be examined that we may see wherein we have failed Almighty God, but like the students will be led from erroneous ideas and thoughts so the Christian must be led on in the things of God unto a perfect man. Often times we think of the Christian Religion as a great Truth and so it is, but we forget that the Christian Religion is also a Way of Life. ent at the evening service. A hearty song service was followed by the worship service in which the musicians sang several numbers. The Morgage Burning ceremony was conducted by the Rev. C. A. Berry. As the discharged mortgages were being consumed the quartet sang, "A Glorious Church". A moment of silent prayer was observed with Rev. C. A. Berry then leading in prayer. "Blest Be the Tie that Binds" closed the ceremony. The guest speaker of the day used the text, II Kings 4:26, "Is it well with thee? Is it well with my husband? Is is well with the child?" This evangelistic message caused believers and sinners alike to leave with mixed feelings. As an Anniversary Sunday project, $185.00 were given to tile a section of the basement floor. EDEN W.A.
