C. L. Keating Resigns from High School Board Minutes of Last Regular Meeting of 1960 Council Members present, Reeve W. J. Troop and Councillors Cotter, Griffis, Moore and Harnden. I Minutes of the last meeting and three special meetings were read. Moved by Councillor Moore | and seconded by Councillor Cotter that the motion of Nov- j ember 21, special meeting relating to the sale of the East Colborne property be recinded. Carried. On motion of Griffis and Harnden the minutes of last regular meeting and three special meetings as amended were confirmed. Mr. C. L. Keating presented his resignation as Trustee of the East Northumberland High School District stating that he did not want to serve on the Board any longer. Reeve Troop expressed his regrets at Mr. Keatings decision and stated that he was sure Council would unanimously agree with him when he said that Mr. Keating had filled the office of Trustee in a very acceptable mahner and would be missed On motion of Councillors Griffis and Harnden, Council did then accept Mr. Keatings resignation with regret. An application for a building permit was received from T. MacKenzie to build a storeroom On motion of Councillors Griffis and Cotter the permit was granted. Correspondence: From Northumberland and Durham Health Unit with the report for the month of October From the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Canada requesting a grant. From Lake Ontario Develop-ement Association advising that the Association would be represented at four different Sport Shows during the winter and would be pleased to distribute any literature the Village might wish to place before the public at these places. From Magistrate Baxter enclosing cheque for $4.15 this being Colborne's share of fines for October. From Attorney Genertl enclosing a report from the National Research Council regarding the collapse of the Listowel Arena and suggesting certain precautions which should be taken by any municipality considering the construction of a similiar building. On motion of Councillors Harnden and Moore the above correspondence was filed. Moved by Councillor Griffis and seconded by Councillor Cooter that Councillors Moore and Harnden together with the Clerk be a committe to secure - to fill the position of High School Trustee for the years 1961 and 1962. Carried. A By-Law was introduced to make it possible to hold the first meeting in each year, of Council, on the first Tuesday in January when Monday was a holiday. On motion of Cotter and Harnden the bylaw was given tirst reading. On motion of Moore and Griffis the rules governing the passing of by-laws were suspended for this session of the Council. On motion of Harnden and Moore the by-law was given second reading. On motion of Griffis and Cotter the by-law was given 'third readng, signed, sealed and numbered. Chief Blyth gaye his report among other things staling that he had been in touch with Mr. Kostoff of Picton and had been informed that the Gikoff house was available for rent at .$40. per niontn. Jim Bell Shower for Newly-weds Saturday evening, December 10th, a shower was held in Grafton Town Hall in honour of the newly weds, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Chapman (nee Donna White), when a large number of friends, neighbours and relatives gathered to congratulate the bride and groom. Mr. Kenneth Mutton read an address. Mr. Lyle Honey presented them with a purse and Mr. Stuart Oliver with a hassock, a gift from the charivari gang. Jack and Donna thanked their friends for the gifts and all joined in singing "For They are Jolly Good Fellows". The evening was spent in dancing to the music of the Chapman orchestra. Lunch was served. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. F. Drinkwalter of Colborne celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on November 23rd, 1960. The bride, the former Jane I. Broomfield, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Broomfield and the groom, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. David Drinkwalter. all of Haldimand Township. They were married by the Rev. W. S. Stewart, Presbyterian minister of Grafton, on November 23rd, 1910. Mrs. Drinkwalter celebrated her ninety-first birthday in September, 1960. Mr. Drinkwalter marks h i s birthday on St. Valentine's Day. Both partook in a quadrille dance with Mr. Drinkwalter doing an extra stepdance. They were at home to their friends and relatives at the Legion Hall, Colborne. Best wishes with more years of married bliss are extended to the happy couple. The regular weekly meeting of the Rotary Club was held at the Queen's Hotel on Monday night with President Jim Chapin in the chair. Singing, including Christmas carols was led by Al. Cammack with Mrs. Lorina Irvine at the piano. A number of items of business were dispose of. The club was favoured by a visit from the President and two Ro-tarians from the Cooksville Club who outlined the activities planned for the District Conference on February 16, 17 and 18th, and issued a special invi tation to club members to be in attendance for at least part of the session. The winners of turkeys at] Saturday night's bingo were Clayton Ferguson, Mrs. Archie McLennon, Aaron McGlennon, Mrs. Leonard Jones and William Ball. Watch for the announcement of the next bingo to be held in the middle of January. Presentation Mr. and Mrs. Archie Samons, "Pleasant View Farm", were pleasantly surprised on Thursday evening, December 8th, when about forty friends and neighbours met at their home in honour of their 41st Wedding Anniversary. Mrs. Samons was presented with a corsage and Mr. Samons a carnation. The evening was spent playing cards and reminiscing. Mr. George Gummer spoke a few words of congratulations and best wishes to the couple of 41 years and Mr. Douglas Mutton presented them with a hostess chair. Mr. and Mrs. Samons thanked their friends for the lovely chair and pleasant evening. All joined in singing "For They are Jolly Good Fellows", and lunch was served by the committee. $10,000 Fire Loss A fire at 6 o'clock last Thursday morning burned up a transport truck trailor which was near the Drivers Rest on Highway No. 2, four and a half miles east of Cobourg, and did approximately $10,000 worth of damage. The damage was mostly to the cargo which was mixed freight, including razor blades, shaving cream, refrigerator shelves and other articles. The Cobourg fire department under Fire Chief K. R. Baird, fought the blaze for over two and a half hours. The driver of the transport, was Robert Joseph Largess of Weston. The vehicle was owned by the Husband Transport Company of London, Ontario. The fire is believed to have started from a heater in the van. Traffic was not held up. Two Passengers Hurt A serious accident occured on Highway 2 at Grafton at 9.40 Friday morning. A car driven by George Grills, 31 of R.R. 2, Baltimore, was proceeding east and attempted to make a left hand turn off the highway, when another car, also going east, tried to pass the Grills vehicle. The second car was driven by Pomipeo Sebastian Ricciute, 38, of Hamilton, who in trying to pass, collided with the Grills car, glanced off a pole and hit a tree head-on. Mr. ' Ricciute was not hurt, but two passengers in the car were taken to hospital. They are his wife, Lydia, and his mother, Marrieto Ricciute. Mrs. Ricciute Sr. received facial and leg lacerations, and possible rib fractures. She will be detained in hospital. Mrs. Lydia Ricciute was released after x-rays had been taken. Damage to the Ricciute car is approximately $1,000, and to the Grills veliicle approximately $200. The accident was investigated by Constable Claude Cour-| ville, Cobourg OPP.
