THE COLBORNE CHRONICLE, Thursday, December i COUPLE'S CLUB MEETING The Couples' Club of Colborne United Church met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Irvine on Wednesday evening, December 14th, with twenty-two members present. Their home was decorated for this Christmas meeting. A dainty lighted Christmas tree surrounded with an array of gifts for the exchange for the members. Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Irvine were in charge of Devotions. Opening Hymn was sung by all, "O Little Town of Bethlehem". Mr. Irvine gave a reading. Thej Scripture was taken from Luke 2:8-15 and Matthew 8-11. Mrs. W. G. Irvine read a very interesting story of "The First Christmas Roses." Hymn " Silent Night" sung by all. A letter was read from Mrs. C. Hauser wishing the Club best wishes for the coming year and she enclosed a lovely poem which was read by Mrs. Irvine, "What I want closed with a Prayer. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. A short business discussion on the plans for the New Year's party to be held at Belleville was dealt with. Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Taylor to conduct the election of officers for 1961. President, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Davis; 1st Vice President, Dr. and Mrs. F. R. Pember; Secretary Treasurer, Mr. and G. Irvine; Press Reporter, and Mrs. B. L. Spencer; Pianist, Mr. and Mrs. L. Spen-Social Convener, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Redner. ;v. F. W. Taylor thanked the officers of the past year for their faithfulness and wished a successful year for the officers for 1961. r. H. Grosjean moved a vote of thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Pacey for the work of the past year. The exchange of gifts was then arranged and all received a gift which brought the meeting to a close. A delicious lunch was served by the hostess and helpers. Mr. E. Thompson thanked Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Irvine for opening their home and Mr. R. Pacey thanked Mr. and Mrs. H. Grosjean who have beer, the social conveners for three years. We hope to see a laiged attendance in 1961. XMAS MEETING OF THE HUSTLERS' AUXILIARY On December 7, the Hustlers' Auxiliary of the W. A. met at Mrs. C. Ferguson's with an attendance of twenty-five. President Mrs. E. Thompson opened the meeting in the usual manner, then welcomed all those present. Mrs. A. Dale was in charge of the Devotional, which opened with hymn 176, 'O Little Town of Bethlehem.' Mrs. W. Baxter read the Scripture^for Phil. 2:5-11. Mrs. Dale gave the Meditation entitled, "The Week Before Christmas", reminding all that the greatest gift we can receive is to have the Spirit of Christ within us. Prayer followed. Hymn 82, " Hark The Herald Angels Sing" concluded the Devotional. The minutes were read and approved. Reports were received from the treasurer and other convenors and committees. A thank-you letter was received from Miss Doris Cook and thanks received from Mrs. L. Mulder. The Nominating Committee, Mrs. M. Campbell, Mrs. C. Ferguson and Mrs. B. Griffith submitted their report with the 1961 slate of officers. It was moved and Seconded that we hold our annual Valentine Tea and Tiny Tot Parade in February. January 4th at 7 p.m. is the date for the annual Pot Luck Supper and Installation of Officers in the Church Hall. A trio, "Ring Out Sweet Bells of Christmas" was sung by Mrs. W. Irvine, and Misses Diane and Marilyn Teal. Mrs. A. Dale read a few thoughts on Christ- The programme concluded with hymn 228, 'Silent Night. Holy Night.' Mrs. E. Thompson thanked the hostess, Mrs. C. Ferguson. Mrs. W. Baxter and Mrs. A. Dale for the programme. She also thanked Mrs. G McKay and Mrs. W. Williams for the Mrs. G. Knapp was in charge of the Christmas Gift exchange. A delicious lunch with a Christmas theme was enjoyed by everyone.
