Fred Taylor of Wroxeter spent Christmas week-end, and Norman Taylor of Waterloo and Mrs. Malcolm Snelgrove with two of her children, Cynthia and Ruth, from Dunrobin, are spending the week with their parents, Rev. and Mrs. F. W. Taylor, at the parsonage. The government has been pre- -on the unemployment insurance sented with a drastic "package" of suggestions to stop the drain fund, Leslie Wilson reports in The Financial Post. The expert advisers suggest steps that include: A boost in contributions rates by as much as 50% (this would be on top of the 30% increase in contribution rates which went into effect a year ago); Cut some groups of married women from the funds, (this could be done by making benefit claimed within a specified period after marriage depend on contributions made to the fund after marriage); Cut some groups of retired people from the fund (this could be done by putting a limit on the amount of superannuation pension, not old age or veteran's persion, which a person would be allowed to draw without sacrificing benefit); Cut some groups of seasonal workers from the fund by setting "off seasons" during which people in particular jobs can't draw benefit unless they meet stringent conditions.
