Dundonald residents were sorry to hear of the fire at Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Chatten's house last week. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford L. Turney Celebrate Fortieth Wedding Anniversary On Saturday evening, December 17th, at the Colborne Legion Centre, over one hundred and fifty friends, relatives and neighbours gathered to honour Mr. and Mrs. Clifford L. Turney, the occassion being their fortieth wedding anniversary. They were married, December 15th, 1920. The happy couple walked up the stairs and were taken completely by surprise. Mrs. Turney was presented with a corsage of red roses and Mr. Turney a red carnation. The master of ceremonies was Mr. Ernest Turney who very capably took over the programme for the evening. Round and square dancing was enjoyed by the young and old. Music was supplied by Mrs. Clifford Godwin at the piano assisted by Glen Turney, Charles Cochrane, Fred Mitchell Orra Harnden. Mr. James Cochrane called off for the square dancing. One song was s by Ray Blakely which was Anniversary Waltz and was joyed by all. At eleven o'clock Mr. Clifford Godwin of Whitby read a short address and wished the happy couple many years of happiness. The head table was centred with a beautiful two layer wedding cake. The bottom layer was cut and passed among the guests. Several baskets of red roses, purple mums adorsed the archway which was designed into the figure forty and trimmed with cedar. This was decorated by their daughters. Mr. and Mrs. Turney were presented with a lovely tri-light lamp, smoking stand and hassock from their friends and relatives. A mock wedding was preformed at 11.30. Those taking part were Edwards Ruttans as minister, Elmer Burley as the bride, Mrs. John Cochrane as bridesmaid, Mrs. Ellis Otto as best man and Mrs. Bruce Jackson as father of the bride. Guests attended from Whitby, Oshawa, Apsley, Peterborough, Bowmanville, Port Hope, Cobourg, Castleton, Campbellford, Toronto and Colborne. Colborne Baton Corps Hold Christmas Concert The Christmas Concert, held in the Town Hall on Friday, December 16th, was a huge success both fiancially and to the pleasure of all attending. This concert was sponsored by the Baton Corps with Band and Baton Corps and pupils of the Kay Cunliffe Dancing Studio taking part in the programme. Mr. Cecil Nobes acted as Master of Ceremonies. The programme opened with recitation by Brenda Ball. Duet, "Christmas" by Jane Wager and Lynne McLaughlin. The Junior Baton Choir sang "Away in a Manger" and "Santa Claus is Coming to Town". Tap dance by Debbie Scriver, Joanne Blakely and Janet Cunliffe of the K. Cunliffe School of Dancing. Recitations by Rhonda Lowery and Helen Clarey. Solo by Carol Beale, "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus". A short play was given by the Senior girls. Three senior girls sang "Winter Wonderland". Recitations by Judy Learmonth and Sharon McLaughlin. Accordian solo by Linda Tutty. The Junior Champions put on a marvellous display of Baton Twirling to the Cha-Cha. Polka and Tap by Jennifer Barnes, Joanne Blakely, Karen Slater, Brenda lies, Loraine Troop and Susan lies. Tap dance by Janet Cun- liffe, Debbie Scriver and Pam Armstrong. At intermission the girls sold home made candy and the draw for the doll took place with Mrs. Harper of Castleton being the lucky winner. A play by the senior girls. A trumpet duet by Mr. T. Gray-don and Wayne Ring, Recitations by Jane Armstrong and Juliet lies. Several Christmas songs were sung by the senior girls' choir. Six junior girls sang "Mr. Christmas Tree". Recitations by Linda Hoskin and Susan Blakely. The band played three selections, "Hark the Herald Angels Sing", "O Come All Ye Faithful" and "Jingle Bells". The programme closed with the "Queen", with Wayne Ring accompanying on the trumpet. Everyone taking part in this programme deserves a great deal of credit for their time and energy for the wonderful entertainment supplied. | Following is a financial state-j ment of the Christmas Concert. Baxter, I was informed that she had successfully passed the Province of Ontario examinations for Grad-j uate Nurses. On Friday evening, January 20th, Mr. A. M. Waller was In-1 stalled as Master for 1950 of Colborne Lodge, A.F. & A.M.,1 No. 91, G.R.C. February 1950 On Friday, February 3rd, 1950, Mr. V. G. Cornwell, oldest former business man of Colborne, celebrated his ninety-ninth birthday. The funeral service for the Reverend William Sterling was held from the G. B. Barnes Funeral Home to the Colborne United Church for public service on Thursday, February 9th, 1950. A very pleasant evening was spent at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Warner, Sr., Lake-port, on Friday, February 10th, 1950, by members of the Ladies' Auxiliary to Colborne, No. 187, Branch Canadian Legion and their husbands on the eve of the departure of Comrade E. MacGregor for a visit to Scotland. The Auxiliary presented Com.-MacGregor with a suitcase laden with groceries to take with her.
