Elaine is a nurse-in-training at Belleville Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Herb Pomeroy entertained at a surprise 40th anniversary for Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Darke on Thursday evening. Over thirty were present. Guests from Oshawa, Ottawa, Warkworth, Colborne, Orland were present. They presented the bride and groom of 40 years with a nice purse of money. A lovely lunch was served. A car load from here attended the District W.I.'s 60th anniversary held in Warkworth Town Hall on Wednesday. Mrs. G. Carr is President of the District. Mr. Earl Darke of Ottawa visited his parents last week and attended their anniversary party. Quite a number from here attended anniversary services at Centreton church on Sunday. (This week's news) Mr. and Mrs. Vaughan Inglis spent the week-end at Odessa with Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Inglis. Mrs. D. Dingwall spent several days in Toronto last week. Quite a bit of excitement was created on Sunday afternoon when Mrs. Audenart's car caught on fire on the main street. The fire engine was called from Colborne but the car was badly damaged. The Free Methodist Church are holding evangelistic meetings for a week. Mr. Ed Andrus died Sunday morning in Trenton Hospital where he has been for several weeks. Funeral service at Black- lock's on Tuesday afternoon and was buried at Castleton Cemetery. Mr. Clifford Quinn had an operation in Cdbourg Hospital. Mrs. Nick Carter, Toronto, spent a couple of days last week with her mother, Mrs. C. Quinn. Mr. Wm. Pratt, Mr. Kingsley Welton, Mrs. J. Bailey and Mrs. D. Dingwall attended a Sunday School Convention at the Queen Elizabeth Building at the C.N.E., Toronto, on Saturday. Mrs. F. Warner and Mrs. W. Dickson, Colborne, visited Mr. and Mrs. F. S. Harnden on Sunday. The Country Hoppers of Peterborough played for a dance in the Town Hall here on Friday night. A very large crowd attended. Mrs. Jack McConnell and children, Toronto, were week-end visitors of Mrs. H. Welton. Mrs. R. Baker of Port Hope visited her mother, Mrs. H. Welton, a few days this week.
