Mr. and Mrs. Fred Marshall and girls, Cobourg, visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Irvine on Saturday. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Palmer on the arrival of a daughter born on Tuesday, November 28th, at Cobourg District General Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Hall and family visited at the home of her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Memo, Port Hope, on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Nesbitt and daughter, Lorianne, visited at the home of her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Verne Tapley, on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Pettibone and daughters, Sharon £ Sheila, Toronto, called at home of his brother, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Pettibone during the week-end. Mrs. Arthur Pettibone and Mrs. Neil Fiddick re turned to Toronto with them or Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Thorpe and daughter, Tracey Jane, spent the week-end at the home of his mother, Mrs. Jim McKenzie. Mr. Thorpe returned to Senneterre, Quebec, on Sunday. Mrs. Thorpe and Tracey Jane remained with Mrs. McKenzie. Miss Edith Kemschies and Mr. Romeo Zorzi of Toronto < guests at the home of Mrs. Ruby Oke on Sunday. Ladies' Aid Meeting The Ladies' Aid of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church met at the home of Mrs. Bob Moore, Grafton, on Wednesday afternoon, November 22nd. There were eleven ladies present. The President, Mrs. Delbert Peebles, opened the meeting with Scripture reading, Psalm 100, followed by the Lord's Prayer in unison. Mrs. George Edison was appointed Secretary to fill the office held by Mrs. Mary Cherry, who recently moved to Oakville. The Secretary read the minutes of the previous meeting and also a thank-you note from Mrs. Cherry. It was moved that a letter of thanks be sent to Mr. Arron McGlennon for installing a rail on the Sunday School steps. Money from the Travelling Basket was handed in and the ladies were reminded to bring the penny bags to the next meet, ing. A get-well card was signed by all to be sent to Mrs. Viva May, who is a patient in Cobourg District General Hospital. Mrs. Fred Coffeen will be the hostess at the next meeting at the home of her brother, Mr. O r a Harnden, Colborne, on Tuesday evening, December 5th. This is the Christmas party and exchange of gifts. The President closed meeting with a lovely prayer and extended a vote of thanks to Mrs. Moore for entertaining the Ladies' Aid in her new home. Euchre and Dance A very good crowd attended Thank You! Kernaghan held the lucky ticket, No. 13, on the draw which was a two and one-half pound box of chocolates. Spot dance prizes went to Carol Irvine and Josette Hompus. Congratulations were extended to Mr. and Mrs. Henry May who would celebrate their twentieth wedding anniversary on Sunday, November 26th. The draw w illbe made for bridge set (table and four chairs) at the next social evening, December 8th. i Tasty refreshments w e r served. Lakeport Community Club Lakeport Community Club met at the home of Bette Tapley, on Tuesday evening, November 21st, with eleven ladies present. The President, Dorothy May, opened the meeting with all singing, "The More We Get Together". Minutes of the last meeting were read by the Secretary, Bette Tapley. She also read eral thank-you notes. Get-well cards were signed by all for Viva May, a patient in Cobourg District General Hospital, and Jane Roddy, a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital, Peterborough. The Treasurer's report wai read by Dorothy Palmer. There was no sunshine report as Mary Joice was absent. Plans were made for the Christmas party to be held at Rose Edison's on Tuesday ning, December 12th. As usual there will be the gift exchang( and girls don't forget to wear ; Christmas corsage. The Travelling Prize was woi by Mary Steven. This part of the meeting closed with the Lord's Prayer. Doris Hall and Mabel Unwin were in charge of the entertain-ment for the evening and contests were played. A lovely lunch was served by the hostess and lunch committee, Winnie Robinson and Rose Edison, assisted by Dorothy May. A vote of thanks was extended by the President to Bette for very pleasant evening. Farm Safety Meeting Front Road East Farm Forum and Wicklow and Vernonville Women's Institute were gi of Grafton Women's Institute last Monday in the Town Hall. The group listened to the broadcast on "The Farm Family". Two films entitled "The Safest Township Anywhere" and "I' No Fool With Fire", were shown by Mr. Ralph Banbury, Agricultural Representative. Broomfield Acclaimed Reeve At the Nomination meeting Friday, Gordon Broomfield v acclaimed Reeve of Haldimand Township. Lyle Curtis became Deputy-Reeve, by acclamation. Nominated for Council were Neil Masterson, Nelson Usher, Alex Mackie, Grant Massey and who said that their sons and daughters are possibly better off financially in the town or city but better off in a moral and responsible aspect on the farm. They qualified their answers by suggesting that the young people have more tasks to perform in the rural community and this helps to teach them responsibility. These were some of the opinions voiced by Northumberland Farm Forums on he "Farm Fam- Northumberland Farm Forums Northumberland Farm For-ns discussed "The Farm Family" after listening to the broadcast last Monday evening. "Is the family life changing in your community?" was one of the questions discussed. Front 1 East felt that is is changing and for the better especially with further education being made more accessible to sons and daughters of rural families. Mount Pleasant felt that the community can help strengthen family life with adults setting good example by attending the church of their choice, supporting and giving leadership to worthwhile organizations such church youth groups and 4-H Clubs. Most of the Forums agreed with Shiloh and Cobourg Road Delco BUILDERS SIGNS A SPECIALTY DELMAR MOORE Colborne 269J NORTHUMBERLAND FEDERATION OF AGRICULTURE Delegates who attended the twenty-fifth anniversary of Ontario Federation of Agriculture in Toronto recently reported to Northumberland Federation at their monthly meeting last Thursday in Brighton. Mrs. Coveney told about the symposuim on the European Common Market. Mr. Peter Stursberg was the chairman of this part of the programme and gave a great deal of background information especially why the European Common Market was being formed. Among his statements were that it would provide a joint recovery programme and be bulwark against Corn-Mrs. Shirley Johnston reported on the Direct Membership Panel and Royce Hannah told of the new plan of courses proposed by the Department of Education for Secondary Schools, as presented to O.F.A. by Mr. A. McKague. Resolutions passed by the O.F.A. Annual Meeting included the following: working towards one united and stronger organization, more equitable method of raising money for education costs, assisting lamb producers to improve the orderly marketing of sheep and lambs, request to the Beef Producers to recognize registration of cattle bred by artificial insemination units, and to reemphasize the position of Ontario Federation of Agriculture to be that of not having any political affiliation. Plans were made to hold Northumberland Federation of Agriculture annual meeting in January with the following committees appointed: Arrangements, Alex McComb, Mrs. Don Ducie, James McKague and Gerald Philp; Programme, Bruce Eagleson and Royce Hannah; Tickets and Advertising, Mrs. Shirley Johnston, Mrs. G. Mack-lin and Mrs. F. Coveney; Annual Reports, Royce Hannah, Glen Cole, Howard McCann and Doug Johnston. f Considerable discussion followed on the constitution and a committee of Doug Johnston, Royce Hannah, Bruce Eagleson, Edgar Buttar and Advisory Member Grant Wallace was appointed to study the constitution and present their suggestions to the December Board meeting.
