THE COLBORNE CHRONICLE, Thursday, December 21st, 1961 Brighton (Bette Moore) Christmas came early this year as far as Miss Carol Boni-steel is concerned. If you aie wondering why her eyes have added sparkle, just take a peek at her glittering left hand! On the list for one of our Brighton girls who will exchange "Miss" for "Mrs" sometime next summer, Carol, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Bonisteel, is engaged to marry Mr. Torkwell Hillary, a Scarborough teacher from London, Ontario. Carol and Torkwell spent last week-end visiting the Bonisteels 'I Remember" In Appreciation To the many people who have so kindly expressed their appreciation of my writing by spoken word, by letters and cards and to all those who have placed at my disposal books, papers and other sources of information, I Want to say a very heart-felt "Thank You". May everyone of you and all my other readers have the happiness and joy that comes from celebrating the Birthday of The King Of Peace and may the coming year bring us all a little nearer to the time when strife and jealousies will cease and peace shall reign from the rivers to the ends of the earth. but will go their separate ways as they do honour to their families this Christmas season. Torkwell will spend the holiday in London while Carol will spend hers with her family here. Gerald Radway, 44, and Herbert Webb, 32, of 44% Street, Trenton, were arrested during the early hours of the 16th for having in their possession -- stolen chickens! The thirteenth is not always an unlucky day. The ladies of] Group I, Trinity St. Andrew's United Church are in full accord that December, the 13th, was their lucky day for they were entertained that evening by two of the younger set. Miss Wanda Vincent and Miss Barbara Wright played two duets, "Hark The Herald Angels Sing" and "O Little Town of Bethlehem". The group appreciated the girls' choice as well as their ability. Nine bi-monthly bridge players, playing together for a minimum of ten years, ended another year of their pleasant association as they gathered at the home of Mrs. Eric Falkner for their annual Christmas dinner, party and bridge on Monday evening, December 18th. The hostess for the Christmas party always provides the turkey and Mrs. Falkener had that this year. The trimmings were brought in by the other members of the group; Mes-dames Cy Boyce, Kingsley Brin-tnell, Hamilton, Harcla Morrow Samuel Netley, Harold Thomas, Donald Vincent and Clare Wright. Following dinner the ladies exchanged gifts with those whose name they drew a month prior. It's still a bridge club, even at Christmas time, so four quick games were played to see if any of the members were left with concentrative powers equal to the game after sunh an en-ourmous dinner and the ensuing excitment. "Concentration" ended on the desert course which had to be saved a few hours as the ladies couldn't do justice to desert immediately following dinner. Indeed a gala evening and the perfect climax for the year. Our sympathy is extended to Mr. Clinton Pickles whose wife passed away on Friday. Mrs. Jack Scriver was the party responsible for making between 25 and 30 girls, members of the United Church C.G. I.T. very happy. Mrs. Scriver volunteered her home for the girls Christmas party Monday night, December 18th. The girls played games, exchanged gifts and enjoyed refreshments during the evening. gave a contribution to the program of readings, poems or missionary letters. Mrs. Shantz read "A Mother's Prayer at Christmas." Mrs. Corbyn, a reading entitled "Christmas of Long Ago." Mrs. Grant read "Ready for the Gift." Mrs. Mc-Cormack gave a poem entitled "Can This Be Christmas?" Mrs. Hobbs gave a very interesting talk on the life of a young Islam woman. Mrs. McKinnon read a letter from Mrs. Fretz in BraziL Mrs. Puddephatt read a letter from the Byers family in India. "O Come All Ye Faithful" and "Silent Night" were sung during the program. Eleven members answered the roll call with the title of a favourite carol. The closing prayer was given by Mrs. Hobbs followed by the exchanging of Xmas gifts and a delightful lunch was served. GROUP II OF THE UNITED CHURCH Tuesday, December 12th, al the home of Mrs. Ross Sherwin Group 2 of the United Church brought to a close another year Mrs. Fox presided and Mrs. Scott Hucheson and Mrs. Atkins were in charge of the programme. Reports were given showing a very successful year and a business session followed. The devotional period was taken by Mrs. Hucheson and included singing old favourite Christmas Carols.
