On Monday evening, the annual Sunday School meeting at the home of the Superintendent, Mrs. R. S. Carman. On Wednesday evening, the U.C.W. at the home of Mrs. Cecil Bellamy. On Friday evening, the Sunday School sponsored sleigh-riding party on Fenaughty's hill with lunch at the S.S. Hall at 9.00 p.m. Services next Sunday at the regular hours. Sunday School at 1.30 p.m., followed by the worship service at 2-.30 p.m. Mesdames John Fenaughty, Jack Hutchings, Kenneth, Cecil and Archie Bellamy were the five ladies who represented Salem U.C.W. at Cobourg Presbytery meeting last Tuesday. The meeting was held in the Cobourg United Church. Over 250 ladies were in attendance for this first Presbytery meeting of the United Church Women. The annual congregational meeting of the Salem United Church was held in the Sunday School Hall last Thursday evening. A pot luck supper was enjoyed before the reports were given. A detailed account of this special evening will be sent in to the Chronicle by the U.C.W. Secretary, Mrs. George Peters. Since 1961 was the Centennial year of our Salem United Church, this report should be exceptionally interesting. Watch for it. Mrs. Grant Whaley was a week-end guest at the home of her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Dudley and baby at Tor-Mr. and Mrs. Fred Irwin of Brighton spent Saturday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank McDonald. Master Roger Whaley was a Saturday luncheon guest at the home of Johnny Smith. The John Meckings were thrilled last Saturday evening when M.C. Gordon Roberts of Radio Station C.H.U.C., Cobourg, taped an hour of their Saturday evening barn dance. Music was supplied by the Rawhide Ramblers. This hour will be heard over the air, from C.H.U.C., from 3 to 4 p.m. next Saturday afternoon. Over 75 youngsters of public and high school ages enjoyed sleigh-riding party and dance at the South Cramahe Public School last Saturday evening, under the supervision of the principal, Mr. Robert Miller, and the staff of teachers. Following is a report written by one of the senior pupils, Miss Patricia McMahon. Patsy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Victor McMahon of Salem. South Cramahe School Party and Dance A sleigh-riding party and dance was held at the South Cramahe Public School on Saturday evening, January 27th. There were 75 or more public and high school students pres- The sleigh-riding started at approximately 7.00 p.m. This took place on the hill behind the school. At 9.00 the bell was rung and the students were called in. The dance was held in the school auditorium. Later, hot-dogs and soft drinks were served. Some of the pupils had brought records which were played for dancing. This ended at 11.00 p.m. Most of the students enjoyed themselves and had a very good time. The principal and staff chaperoned the party. Mr. and Mrs. Angus McDonald and baby of Oshawa spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Frank McDonald. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Smith and children were Sunday supper guests at the home of their friends, 'Mr. and Mrs. Victor Hayes and girls at Cobourg. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Brown are enjoying a week's vacation in the U.S.A. Salem friends of Miss Linda Jones of Colborne were pleased to learn that she was able to return home from Trenton Memorial Hospital. Linda underwent surgery for an appendectomy Tuesday of last week. Nice to hear that Master David Whaley is also able to return home from hospital. David was at Cobourg District General Hospital, a victim of pneumonia. David is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Whaley of Salem. Svmpathy of the neighbourhood is extended to Mrs. James Graham and family, Keene, in the death of the late James Graham.
