Misses Jeanne and Verna Latimer of Belleville General Hospital, visited their parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Latimer. Miss Joan Williams of Belleville General Hospital visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Williams. ***** Mrs. Charles Teal visited her sister Mrs. D. W. Campbell in Campbellford M<*rlbrial Hospit- Mrs. T. Guthrie of Toronto spent the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Lee. Miss Karen Island spent the week-end in Toronto with Miss Penny Cooke and attended the Ballet. Mr. Cornelious is visiting relatives in Orangeville for a few weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Reg Bright and Mr. and Mrs. Al Cammack have returned from a motor trip to California. Mr. and Mrs. R. Bibby and family of Hamilton spent the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. Summers. Miss Vera Arkles and Mrs. Harry Jensen are both patients in Cobourg General Hospital. We wish them a speedy recov- and the ladies of the Evening Guild were especially pleased to welcome not only their local friends, but also those from Brighton, Lakeport and Castleton. Len A. Taylor Dies of Heart Attack South Cramahe Central School Board The regular meeting was held on February 22nd, 1962, at 2.00 p.m., with all trustees present and Cecil Bellamy in the chair. Minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted on motions of Oliver and Watson. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows -- Moved by Ferguson and Watson that this board be willing to make application through the Inspector, for Itinerant Auxiliary Teaching, if a majority of the boards concerned also make application. Carried. Moved by Robinson and Ferguson that accounts to the amount of $487.11 be paid. Car-Moved by Watson and Oliver that this meeting adjourn. Next regular meeting March 29th, 1962, at 8.00 p.m. Leonard Alfred Taylor, Superintendent of the Commercial Printing Department of the Ontario Intelligencer, Belleville, a Second World War Veteran and active citizen, died suddenly early Monday morning. Mr. Taylor had previously suffered a heart attack, but of late his health had been steadily improving, and his sudden death came as a great shock to his many friends and relatives. Mr. Taylor was born in England, 56 years ago, and had been a resident of Ontario for tht past 39 years. He was a printer by trade, and went to Tweed from Orillia some years ago. Eight years ago he joined the staff of the Ontario Intelligencer as manager of the printing department. When he went to Tweed, he got a number of the veterans together and formed a flourishing Royal Canadian Legion. In Belleville he joined Branch No. 99, and immediately projected himself with the work of the Legion there. He also had served as Commander of Zone F-3, and for the past five years he had been Public Relations Officer for the Provincial Command of the Legion, a post he filled with distinction. In his own business of print-1 ing, he took an active part in1 the East Central Ontario Graphic Arts Association, as a member of the executive and last year served as its president. Mr. Taylor was well known and he was in constant demand as a speaker for special occasions. He was a kind husband and a loving father and will be sadly missed. He was an adherent of the Baptist Church and fraternally was a member of I.O.O.F. Surviving are his wife, the former Ellen Louise Edwards; three sons, N. Robert Taylor of Delaware, Ontario, Cpl. William E. Taylor, Germany, Burnell E. Taylor of Peterborough; four brothers and three sisters. Mr. Taylor rested at the John Busli Funeral Home. Memorial service was held on Wednesday at 2.00 p.m. Rev. L. Arthur Page officiated. Interment Belleville Cemetery. Toronto Student to Study in Europe Miriam Anne Leith, Toronto student, currently attending Macdonald Institute, University of Toronto, has been awarded Rotary Foundation Fellowship for study abroad during the 1962-63 academic year. She will probably attend the University of Aberdeen, Bucksburn, Scotland, though her admission there is not definite at this time. Announcement of the award was made recently by Rotary International, world-wide service organization. Miss Leith's appli- Grafton News By Mrs. D. C. Johnston Mrs. H. Hare was in Peterborough on Friday. Front Road East Forum held a Card Party at the Hotel last Monday evening. Mr. and Mrs. J. Kernaghan and family visited Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Harnden in Bowmanville on Sunday. The Board of Stewards of St. Andrews United Church held a meeting on Wednesday evening at which Earle Helps was elected Chairman of the Board. Among those attending the Farm Forum Rally in Brighton on Friday evening were Harold Prentice, Mr. and Mrs. Percy Prentice, Mr. and Mrs. G. Coe, Mr. and Mrs. F. S. Harnden and Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Johnston. Last Tuesday afternoon the Women's Institute journeyed to the Golden Plough Lodge, Cobourg to entertain the residents. Program numbers included a skit called "The Dancing Grandmothers" by Mrs. M. Rutherford Miss W. Ellis, Miss W. Wilson, Mrs. E. Harnden, Mrs. Arthur Riley and Mrs. D. C. Johnston accompanied at the piano by Mrs. S. Knight, a duet by Miss Wilson and Mrs. RutherfofU "Daisy, Daisy", several vocal numbers by Mrs. N. Snowden and Sing Song. The Roll Call was a gift for a resident. After these were collected they were distributed among the residents. Lunch was then served to all including the residents. Colborne UCW Unitl A meeting of Unit 1 of the Colborne UCW was held on February 26th, at the home of Mrs. E. W. Rowsome. Mrs. M. Campbell called the meeting to order. The minutes were read by the secretary Mrs. N. O'Neil and business was discussed. Due to illness of Miss Vera Arkles, Mrs. M. Campbell took the worship. Call to worship was given followed by a hymn. A meditation "Little bits about the Bible" was given and the worship closed with prayer. Due to illness Rev. French could not be there so Mrs. N. O'Neil took this part of the programme. After discussion on several subjects, lunch served. Thanks were extended to the hostess and all who took part and the meeting closed with the Mizpah Benediction. Trinity Euchre A very enjoyable euchre was held in the Parish Hall of Trinity Anglican Church, on Friday, evening, February 23rd, with fifteen tables participating. The following were the winn ers: Ladies high, Mrs. M. Davis, Ladies lone hands, Mrs. Viva May, Ladies Consolation, Mrs. Dorothy May. Men's high, Mr. A. Kemp, Men's lone hands, Mr. Ed. Kernaghan, Men's Consolation, Mr. John Hodges. This was the final euchre of the series. These euchres have been a very successful venture, cation for the fellowship was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Swansea. The number of Rotary Foundation Fellowships awarded was 135. They went to outstanding young men and women students in 34 countries, with each grant averaging approximately $2,-16OO.OO. As a Rotary Fellow, Miss Leith will study nutrition to prepare for a career in that field. Daughter of the Rev. Dr. and Mrs. J. Scott Leith of Toronto, she was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, on February 28th, 1939, and is single. She received a scholarship from the Atkinson Foundation, and in 1961, she was a volunteer worker for the Indian-Eskimo Association of Canada at Broughton Island, where she offered aid and advice to Eskimo women and children in codking and sewing. She was president of the Student Christian Movement, Debating Union, and the choir, and participated in intramural and inter-varsity dramatics.
