Among these people was Floyd Harnden who continued for eleven more years in the capacity of Treasurer of the Haldimand Memorial Community Centre. Johnston (Last Week's News) Sympathy is extended to Mr. Harvey Bryson on the loss, of Ills sister, Mrs. E. Trew of Oshawa. Sympathy is extended to Mr, Earl Boyle on the loss of his grandson, Paul Boyle of Burnley, son of Mr, and Mrs. Thomas Boyle. Paul was instantly killed when run. over by a truck on his father's farm. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Johnston and family and Mrs. Sager, Toronto, visited Mrs.. J. S. Johnston on Sunday. Mrs. Johnston has just recently returned from Cobourg where she was confined following a fall at her home several weeks ago. Wayne Hare, Peterborough, 'spent the week-end with his mother, Mrs. H. Hare. Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. Winter were Mr. and Mrs. D. Denney and family and Mr. .and Mrs. C. Denney. Sunday guests of Mr- and Mrs. B. Harnden were Mr. and Mrs. B. Denney and family. . Christian Family Sunday Last Sunday at St. Andrew's United Church, Christian Family and Mother's Day was observed. Several baptisms were performed by Rev. Knock. Among them..were Carol Chalpvich, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Chalovich; Shelley Winter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Winter; Reginald and Ronald Denney, children of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Denney; Debra Denney. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Doug. Denney; and Ronald Ferguson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ferguson. Floyd S. Harnden Honoured Mr. and Mrs. Charles Medhurst opened their home for a card party and social evening last Wednesday. ..The evening was planned to honour Floyd S. Harnden who recently retired as Treasurer of Haldimand Memorial Community Centre for 24 years. Floyd Harnden first became connected with recreational programmes for the Grafton area in 1938 when it was decided to construct an open air rink on the property of H. Carter. With the outbreak of World War Two and sons of Haldimand answering the call of duty this rink was closed, due to the lack of help in removing snow and bitter winds. Plans were soon made to convert the church sheds of St. Andrew's United Church into a covered rink. Floyd Harnden spent a great deal of time and effort along with many others in getting this rink in operation. In ing the, years that followed much effort was put into raising money to better skating facilities in Grafton. In February, 1950, a new arena was officially opened in the Haldimand Community Park, a symbol of what may be accomplished when so many public-spirited men and women work to- Attention, Parents SOUTH CRAMAHE SCHOOL AREA On Tues. and Wed., June 5 and 6 from 2.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. there will be! a REGISTRATION of all children who expect to enrol in Grade 1 next September at the South Cramahe Public School. Children who will be six years old before January 1st, 1963, are eligible to enrol. Parents are requested to bring Some proof of age such as birth certificate, birth notice or baptismal certificate. MILLAR, Principal Brighton St Andrew's Presbyterian WA 'Happy The Home When God Is There", was the hymn the Wo-'s Auxiliary of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church chose to open their special May meeting honouring mothers. The meeting, held on thte 8th of May, was at the home of Mrs. Grace Rowley. Mrs. Scriver led in prayer for family and home. Mrs. Fullarton read the Scripture, Proverbs 31, 'erses 10 to 31. A reading was Jiven by Mrs. William Armit, Godly Women of the Bible". The reading began with the most outstanding mother in the Bible, Mary, and ended in prayer for all mothers. Mrs. T. Cheer led the group in prayer for mothers and a quiz on mothers of the Bible, matching mothers and sons, was conducted by Mrs. Armit. Mrs. Fullarton won the quiz. The usual business was taken care of followed by another contest, "Name the Face', won by Mrs. T. Cheer. The meeting closed with the Benediction and the hostess, assisted by Mrs. Armit and Mrs. Donald Vincent, served a light lunch to the group. The next meeting will be held in the Sunday School Rooms of the church on June 12th. Hos-js will be Mrs. Day and Mrs. BR, BAP. CH. The Dr. Lillian Beatty Mission Circle met in the Brighton Baptist Church on Wednesday, May 16th. Hymns and prayer opened the meeting and a few business matters were then quickly and efficiently discussed. Mrs. V. Warren had the devotions, her theme being, "The fruit of the Spirit of Life," pointing out the responsibility of christians to pass on the word, to reach out to the lost. Mrs. D. Latham took the topic and with the help of Mrs. R. Carr and Mrs. H. Bangay gave a very interesting study or the history of Bolivia, which country dates back to antiquity. The progress of the country was traced through the years to the present democratic Bolivia. Mrs. R. Taylor and Mrs. H. Goodrich then led in prayer and Rev. J. Gibson closed the meeting with the benediction. A much enjoyed social hour followed. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Scott and Carol, Toronto, returned home Saturday, to spend the summer. Miss Maude Leopold passed away in Toronto on Sunday afternoon after a lengthy illness. Funeral service was held on Tuesday afternoon in Toronto. Her many friends here were sorry about her passing. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Allen and family of Oshawa, Mr. Bruce Moffat of Oshawa, Mr. and Mrs. Pat Thomas of Sudbury were at Mrs. E. Moffat's for the week-end.
