Smith Plans for the Salem community picnic sponsored by the Sunday School will be announced Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs, Max Webb (nee Doreen Dorie) who wore married recently. On behalf of the Salem community, Mrs. John Fenaughty and Mrs. Cecil Bellamy presented the young couple with a set of melmac dinnerware, a heavy-duty cooking pan, a canister set and bread box and an electric iron. Doreen and Max were very pleased and expressed their appreciation for this friendly gesture. Sixteen students have registered to begin grade one at the South Cramahe Public School, when school re-opens next September. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Bellamy spent Thursday and Friday of last week in Buffalo. On Wednesday, June 13, Miss Betty Patchett entertained several of her young friends, on the occasion of her 12th birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Burns and baby of Parry Sound spent Saturday with her mother, Mrs. Kay Patchett and Betty Lou. Mr. and Mrs. Will Peacock were recent Sunday dinner guests with Mrs. Grace McCallum, Little Lake. Mr. and Mrs. John Davis and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Smith and family were among the guests at the shower at Grafton town hall last Saturday evening in honour of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wheatley of Cobourg. Mr. and Mrs. Vic Davis and boys spent the week-end at the hunting camp (fishing) at Lake St. Peter. Mr. George Davis spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. J. Davis and family. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Vanwick-lin, Mr. and Mrs. Art Simpson and family were Saturday evening guests with Mrs. Kay Patchett and Betty Lou. . Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Peacock visited their neices, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Smith at Moira Lake and Mr. and Mrs. Percy Locke at Madoc on Sunday, June 10th. Mr. and Mrs. John Bean and Barbara had Sunday dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Peacock and children. Also present were their parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Peacock. Mrs. Robert Blyth Jr. was hostess for the June meeting of the Salem Ladies' Recreation Club on Thursday evening of last week. During the evening a presentation of a two-toned green glass bon-bon dish was made to Mrs. Kay Patchett, who will be leaving our community in the near future. Kay will be truly missed at our future meetings. Her sunny smiles and cheerful disposition have gained her many friends in this district. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bellamy of Cannington and Mrs. W. Mast-of Colborne were among the several friends who called on Mr. and Mrs. Archie Bellamy last Sunday after the service. Mrs. Bellamy returned home from the hospital on Thursday and is progressing satisfactorily. Nice to hear that Mr. Victor McMahon is also able to be'home from the hospital. Mrs. Evelyn Smith of Toronto spent the past week visiting with Mr. and Mrs. George Peters and family. Mr. and "Mrs. George Peters and Jimmy visited with Mr. and Mrs. W. Pearson and Mrs. F. Pearson and also Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Pearson and family, Dundonald, on Sunday evening. CASTLETON by Mrs. F. Warner Mr. and Mrs. A. Young of Hamilton spent the week-end with Mr. A. Wolfraim. They entertained about thirty friends and relatives on Sunday who were attending decoration day. W. I. Meeting The W. I. meeting was held on Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Don Ducie. The president, Mrs. S. Peebles was in charge. Reports of standing committee conveners was given, Mrs. H. Welton was program convener of the following fine program. Roll Call, famous pioneers; Motto, Look back and give thanks. Look forward and give courage, by Mrs. H. Welton. A reading by Mrs. G. Carr. Mrs. J. McKague gave a splendid paper, "Pioneer Women". She was presented with a corsage being one of the pioneer members of our W.I. A piano solo by Rosemary Dodge. A reading, "Miss Lydias Furniture" by Mrs. V. Pomeroy. Reading by Mrs. W. Covert, "Grandmas". Reading, "The spinning wheel", by Mrs. G. Carr. Reading, "The Old Days", by Mrs. F. Warner. Piano solo by-Mrs. T. Doidge. An exhibit of antique articles was interesting. Thirty ladies were present and enjoyed the nice lunch served t|; the hostess and committee. Mrs. F. S. Mallory of Toronto spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs Gerald Welton. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. McKague attended the Harnden and Kloos-tra wedding at Trenton on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Dingwall Sr. Mrs. W. Austin visited Mr. and Mrs. D. Dingwall Jr. on Sunday. Mrs. Pat Thomas left on Tuesday to join her husband at Moos-enee where they will be stationed Mr. Harold Stillman a former resident of this area was buried at Warkworth last Thursday. " rs. E. Trim visited her family at Newtonville last week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Al. Chilton and family of Toronto were week-end visitors of Mrs. C. Quinn. Mrs. Oran Day returned home i Saturday from Campbellford hospital. Decoration Day was held on Sunday at Castleton Cemetery ith service in the Church. The cemetery looked lovely with its many floral decorations. Mr. and Mrs. F. S. Harnden and Mrs. Nettie Harnden of Grafton were Sunday visitors of Mr. and Mrs. T. Black. RIDGE ROAD by Mrs. Harry Stickle Mr. and Mrs. Taylor of Madoc were Sunday visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Watson. Mr. Bill Stickle of Toronto spent the week-end at home with his parents, and on Sunday he called on Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sutton in Colborne. Mr. Jack Snape called on His father, Mr. J. Snape last week before leaving for Italy. Mrs. Harry Stickle called on Mr. Edgar Wells on Sunday afternoon at the Golden Plough Lodge in Cobourg. Miss Gail Watson spent the week-end in Toronto and Osha- Mr. and Mrs. Robert Toyne of Malton and Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Evely called on Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Evely and family on Sunday evening. Miss Sonia Watson has improved after being very sick with the mumps. Mrs. C. Barth called on Mr. and Mrs. Harry Stickle on Sunday evening. Miss Linda Sheppard and Miss Betty Samis were tea guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. Evely on Thursday night. Mr. Ken Samis of Camp Borden spent the week-end with his parents. Mrs. Harry Stickle and Mary called on Mrs. Fred Earle and Alice Milford in Cobourg on Sunday. Miss Elona Barth spent the week-end in Toronto and went to see the Queen Mother.
