Page Two THE COLBORNE CHRONICLE, Thursday, October 4th, 1962 Wicklow-Vernonville WI Mrs. Gordon Finley, Jr., was hostess to 15 members and 3 visitors of the Wicklow and Vernonville Woman's Institute on Wednesday, September 26th, at 2.30 Mrs. Gordon Broomfield, 2nd vice-president, opened the meeting with the Institute Ode and Creed. The roll call was "What I find most helpful from my Women's Institute work". Mrs. Floyd Bilcox, secretary-treasurer, reported a balance of $75.75. Mrs. Nelson Usher was pianist. Mrs. Nelson Usher, convener for Historical Research and Current Events, reported that the original scrap book had been loaned to members of the Vernonville Church as a reference for historical facts relating to the recent centennial activities of the church. Mrs. Wm. Wildey, convener for Citizenship and Education, read a clipping dealing with a trip to be taken by Mrs. Carl Fabricius on a sales mission to Great Britain and Europe for the purpose of fostering more export business for Canada. Mrs. J. Deviney, leader of the 4-H Homemaking Club, reported that she had attended the Leader's Training Class for the next unit to be studied by the girls, The Cereal Shelf. Mrs. R. Simpson, Public Relations Officer, spoke of the Canadian delegates to the 10th tri- ennial conference of the Associated Country Women of the World to be held in Melbourne, Australia, October 2-13. Sunshine reports were given by Mrs. G. Finley, Jr., Mrs. J. Leem-ing and Mrs. Ed. Smith. Several members plan to attend the 50th anniversary meeting of the Baltimore W.I. on October 4th. Mrs. Gordon Broomfield and Mrs. Gordon Finley, Jr., were appointed leader and assistant leader for the Extension Course, Hints for the Home Nurse. Arrangements were made for members to supervise the Hospital Auxiliary Cart and Shop for the month of October. Mrs. R. Simpson, convener, in- troduced the guest speaker, Mrs. Frank Brown, Roseneath, the District President of West Northumberland Women's Institutes. The topic of her speech was Citizenship in relation to Women's Institute work. She said that she hoped her fellow-members would never grow old in spirit and would always remember the last phrase of the Women's Institute Creed, Let us not forget to be She admonished her listeners to reach for the highest and best things in life. Mrs. Brown pointed out that we often appreciate and valu> most, the things we have had to struggle and work hard for. Her final reminder was that we fully realize the wonderful privilege in being alive and that we enjoy fully the beauties and bounties of nature all around us. Mrs.' Nelson Usher read Bliss Carmen's, Autumn; Mrs. Wm. Wildey, September; and Mrs. A. Partington, Indian Summer. Mrs. W. Rutherford and Mrs. F. Bilcox read Limericks. Mrs. R. Simpson spoke briefly on some duties of a Public Relations Officer. A reporter should try to have her reports clear, concise, correct and complete. A contest, "How Conventional are You?" was won by Mrs. E. Smith. The meeting closed with the Nation Anthem and lunch was served by the committee in charge.
