Smith (Intended for last week) Sincere sympathy of Salem community goes out to Mrs. Jim Bellamy, Sharon, Lawrence and Garry in the loss of a husband and father. Mr. Bellamy passed away last Sunday at Trenton Memorial Hospital. Service was held at Salem United Church on Tuesday afternoon, December 4th. Many friends and relatives visited the Barnes' Funeral Home at Colborne to pay their last respects to the late Mr. Jim Bellamy and to offer solace to the bereaved family. Mr. and Mrs. William Brown were Sunday supper guests with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Buchanan and family at Codrington. Mr. and Mrs. George Peters spent the week-end in Toronto and enjoyed the Grey Cup parade. On Saturday they attended the wedding of Miss Evelyn Nobbs and Mr. Francis John Watkinson at St. Clair Avenue United Church and were guests at the reception which was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon MacEachren, Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Burley artd boys of Port Hope were Sunday guests at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Smith. They also called on Mr. and Mrs. Jack Smith and family during the afternoon. Mrs. Archie Bellamy has turned home following a vacation with her parents and sister at Cooksville and Brampton respectively. Mr. and Mrs. Art Simpson spent Saturday in Toronto with Mr. and Mrs. A. Clark. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bellamy of Cannington called on Mr. and Mrs. Archie Bellamy on Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Jim Bellamy and family spent the past few days with Mr. and Mrs. Alton Haynes at Colborne. Tentative date for the Christmas Concert is set for Friday, December 21st at the Salem Church. Should this date conflict with other activity, the alternate date would be Saturday evening, December 22nd. As I have often mentioned during the past months, it is so nice for a correspondent to receive letters of appreciation from out of town folk. This week we received a nice note from a Peterborough reader of the Chronicle, who is nice enough to tell us that he looks forward to reading the Salem column. Thank you! Many local folk will perhaps remember him, Mr. A. Maskell, formerly of Colborne. Mr. Maskell and his brother, George, of Colborne, have an interest in our Salem community. It is here, down at the old Salem canning factory that they have established a rabbitry. It is a going concern. Twice a month they ship one hundred (four and five lb.) rabbits to the new $80,000.00 Rabbit Processing Plant at Picton. (Thanks again for your nice note, Mr. Maskell!) (This week's news) Services next Sunday at the regular winter hours. Sunday School at 1.30 p.m. followed by worship service at 2.30 p.m. Practice has begun for a special Christmas service which will be held in Salem United Church ,on Sunday evening, December 23rd. Plans for the annual Sunday School Christmas Concert are definite this week. The date is Friday evening, December 21st, at 7.30 p.m., in the church auditorium. Practice has commenced and a worthwhile program is being prepared. The whole school will participate in a Nativity Scene. Each individual class will be responsible for at least 15 minutes of the program. The Senior boys and girls will present a two-act drama based on "Dicken's Christmas Carol". .Plan to attend and show your youngsters you are interested in their religious training. Miss Carmen Burrison of Har-wood spent Sunday with Miss Patricia Peters at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Peters. Mrs. Joe Church and family of Moak Lake are visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Smith for the next few weeks. Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Smith were Saturday supper guests with their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Smith and children. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Davis and family spent the evening with them. Mr. and Mrs. George Peters Jimmy spent Sunday afternoon in Dundonald visiting Mr. and Mrs. Walter Pearson and Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Pearson. Mrs. Roy Chapman and Mrs. Kenneth Mutton accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Waite, Hilton, to Trenton and Belleville on Thurs day and were supper guests of M: and Mrs. Waite. Mr. and Mrs. Lyal Chapman and family called on Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Chapman, Castleton, on Sunday. Mr. Gerald Bennett of Toronto visited his mother, Mrs. E. Bennett a day last week. Mr. and Mrs. T. Black visited Mrs. Ferguson at Frankford on Sunday. A White Gift Service will be held at the United Church on Sunday morning at 11.00 a.m. The Sunday School will assist in the service. Mr. Lome Darling was In Campbellford Hospital for the week-end for treatment. The Community Club will hold their Christmas meeting on Tuesday night, December 18th, at 8.30 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Don Gillespie with Mrs. N. Gleason and Mrs. D. Hillborn as conveners.
