The Hats of Cramahe ca.1900
A Feathered Hat
This feathered hat was made locally in Colborne. It was hand sewn and has no manufacturer's label. The designer used a black velvet on the exterior and accented this rich fabric with black ostrich feathers. The feathers' fine strands would have moved gracefully and freely with each turn of the head, which was meant to catch the eye and turn the heads of others. Vivid red cloth details the interior cap portion of the hat to frame and brighten the wearer's face.
