Lakeport has been variously called Old Cat Hollow, Cramahe Harbour, Colborne Harbour, and the Port of Cramahe. Homes, stores, schools, and churches formed the basis of everyday Lakeport village life. Lakeport is the earliest place of non-Aboriginal settlement in Cramahe township. The area near Colborne Creek was known as Indian Landing due to its importance as a place of Indigenous trade. Finely sculpted adzes and arrowheads document ancient Indigenous hunting and manufacturing technology, reaching back at least several thousand years.
