Summary An album of photographs taken by Sergeant Victor Earl Ives, an x-ray technician with the Canadian Army Medical Corps, Canadian Expeditionary Force, while serving in Greece and Turkey with No. 4 Canadian General Hospital. Images depict: the city of Istanbul and surrounding landscape, as seen from a minaret at St. Sophia; the exterior of surgical wards at Solonica (Thessaloniki); Nile buffalo in the water with a French ammunitions dump in the background; a French Army band concert at the Quay entrance to Venezelos Street; Turkish and Greek peasants; x-rays depicting fractured limbs, as well as hips, heads, and joints; frontline dugouts near Lake Doiran; quay and numerous other city-scenes at Salonica; men in Greek orthodox dress; blank calendar pages; and a handwritten note.

Biographical / Historical Note Sergeant Victor Earl Ives was born in Colborne, Ontario on 24 November 1891.He was a student when he enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Force on 31 March 1915 at Toronto. As an x-ray technician, Ives served overseas with No. 4 Canadian General Hospital in Salonika, Greece during the First World War.
