The people in the Ridge Road area were farmers working their farms to provide for their families. Crops of fruits and vegetables went to the local canning factories, milk and cream went to the local dairies and cheese factories. The farmers were industrious: they cleared and tilled their land, in the beginning with horses; there was a lot of hard labour to produce the crops and keep their animals healthy. Another factor that was prevalent in the community was that many of the families were related or knew each other from their school days as their parents did. They cared for their community, working together with building bees, trashing harvests, and grieving together at the loss of a community member. Ridge Road.
