Ives,. that orders be drawn on the Treasurer for payment of accounts: E. L. Thompson Co., compound and express charges on Dynamo $10.85; E. Rogers and Co., for, - coal $50.00; Geo. Keyes reported that the money collected for arc lights from January 1st to Feb- It was moved by Ives, seconded by Keyes, that the council borrow $300.00 from the Standard Bank for Corporation purposes and’ I REMEMBER that the seal of the Corporation be attached to this resolution. It was moved by Greer, second- ed by Ives, that the note, dated April 16th, 1894 for the sum of $200.00 cash by J. M. Gould and repaid by the Treasurer with interest amounting to $6.50 be and is hereby confirmed. Moved by Greer, seconded by Ives, that the order issued on January 16th, 1894, to Jos. Coch- rane, Treasurer, for discounts and commissions on P.O. Or- ders, etc., for the sum of $46.80 be confirmed. Moved by Keyes, seconded by Ives, that the clerk be instruct- | ed to advertise, in both the Ex- press and Enterprise, for 10,000 ft. of 4”x6” cedar stringers, 12 or 16 feet long, for sidewalks. Tenders to be received up to 12 o’clock noon, on February 25th, 1895. The lowest or any tender - not necessarily accepted. Cedar subject to the approval of Coun- cil and to be delivered in Codl- borne not later than April Ist, 1895. A By-law was passed appoint- ing W. H. Tuttle as School Trus- tee in place of W. H. Ives, fe- signed. The Council did then adjourn till Monday, February 25th.. Note — I have written this detailed report of a Council meeting in 1895, sixty-seven years ago. It is interesting to compare the expenditures with the sums of money that our Council has to pass out in these days of high living costs. The population of Colborne in 1895 was practically what it is to- day. I guess we may have a hundred more but that is not very many for over sixty years. Our way of life has kept pace with the times but our viilage has never grown. Can anyone solve that ‘riddle?
