Frederick and all thb conveniences that belong to the site have been highly spoken of by all who have become acquainted with them. The picturesque beauty of the camp ground is the theme of every visitor, and in this if not in other respects the camp at King stou takes prominence. The very attering testimony of the Adjutant General to the ap- pearance and eiciency of the troops, as given in the camp orders, is a source of much gretication to the volunteers and their friends, and bears out the good opinion which has been conceived by officers and visitors in the camp. After such well earned praise, the volunteers will, no doubt, keep well up to their work, and justify C; lonel Patterson in sending to the Minister of Militia a report which th friends of the citizens can read with pride and satisfaction. , _ _,---.. ..-... vnuvlvll mu unveil. wing state of umu before the prouont x specially undo to our -, every pair can be nal-nnluul In In 40 BOOK: 2:: E. It is be- T cause the German system has proved itself n so much superior to the French, that I the French, acting on the old maxim, Fa: am ext ab haste (l0C(`I'i, have determined to adopt Lb.` it and thereby place, it possible, the French am on a military equality with the North Ger Ca man nation. Of course there are other which go to make up superiority, but these ,0 need not now be dwelt. upon. The fact stands out, and for the present it is full or P: pregnant meaning, that the French have rcsolved, or deem themselves compelled, to b! adopt the severe military system which ha: enabled Germany to overrun and suhdnv the proudest provinces of France, to besiege- Paris, and dictate oppressive terms of peace to the French government. This de- termination is the first step in the long work of preparation that goes belorc another- outbreak between thesetwo European nations` Seeing this, the l i'u.~xsiaus can do no less for their own safety but prepare with equal attention; and this we may be` sure is what will be done. The peace now obtained must be regarded as a hollow peace, intend- ed to be disturbed as soon as the chances appear suiciently f-.i.vourable`to the French lognable them to do so. And unless these , ideas of revenge that now till the French breast be abandoned, we may nd Bismarck, or some equally keen successor oi the Ger- man Chancellor, picking the quarrel before- hand and subjecting: France to another humiliation before she is fully equal to cope with the power that is now enjoying its tri- umph over her. jr__-.~`-- --.-2 `..... .-a .,.v...... .-_v uuv anuuo uuuus Au. ` `E Three men of the Garrison artillery istationed at St. Helen s Island, were scri- ouslylhnrnt while amusing themselves with loose gunpowder which ignited accidental- ily; and mother broke his log by tripping `over a tent rope.
