It is the intention to at once equip the mines with machines and do away with a great many diggers. When the mines are ready to start miners will be imported and put to work under heavy guard angi the premises barricaded. With the co-opera- tion of the other operators. J. A. vBeIdle oi the Webster gas coal company, looat ` on the Monongahela river, will take the initiative. The operators aver that this plan becomes necessary because the West Virginia people are gobbling all of their contracts. The colors of the young people s Methodist alliance-a white` ribbon with a scarlet thread running through it-were adopted as the colon of the Epwcrth Lea ue, and the Maltese cross as the be gs. John Wesley's l words, "I desire to form a leo- gue, offensive and defensive. with every soldier of .Jesus _ Christ. were adopted as the sentiment of the league. At the end of the tlrst year there i ` were l.8il0 chapters, at the end of thenj fourth year l0,200 chapters. at the end of ` the seventh ear l6,302 chapters. and now, including t e junior leagues. there are about 25.000 chapters. .
