In his us- ual masterly way he showed how Canada was specially favored by England during herjubilee year, He urged on the stu~ dents not to forget our fair dominion. no matter where their lot was cast; the land that gave them birth and liberty. C. O'Connor proposed the next toast, Queen's and Her Faculties." Principal Grant responded on behalf of the arts faculty. He aid a touching tribute to the memory 0 the late lamented l)r. Cun- ningham whom he said was :the fth pro. fessor of Queen : that died within ve years. He gave a brief review of the pro- gress of Queen s medical college. He said it was the first public university in the province. It was broad and liberal in its views, impartial to all, showing favors to none. It was a self governing college and therefore was not under theintluence of stat e, of politican or of millionaires--the bane of many of our continental universities. The very fact of it being self-governing should inculcate into the minds of the stu- dents the practice of self-government, and there is no use being self-governing it you cannot govern yourself. He stated that it had been twenty years since he first took charge as principal of Queen's uni- versity and he could look back with pride on the achievements of Queen : graduates. They are ghting the battle of life bravely acmdit; to the college they represent, a credit to their native land. I\.. A...-Ii... nu I-gnlnalf nf Ghn rnnirnl credit to tneir native ianu. Dr. Anglin, on behalf of the medical faculty, briefly responded. It is now over forty years since Queen's medical college opened her doors for the first time, with nine students attending. She has strug- gled on, meeting with many trials and dif culties until to-day she ranks among the foremost in the dominion. The first graduating class was in 1855. Three years later the Hon. Dr. Sullivan graduated. Queen's medical graduates are loyal to their country and a credit to Queens. They have won fame and distinction in many parts of the earth. There is no hardship too great to endure it only they can alleviate the distress of suffering hu- manity. J. Redmond nroposed "Sister Institu- tions. D. A. He said that it was very opportune in regard to Mt:(lill s, as their faculty lad forbidden the college to play with city teams. '1`.
