The management committee of the pub- lic school board made its annual visit to the different schools yesterday afternoon. Notwithstanding the inciemency of the weather there was a good attendance in nearly all the classes. Victoria school was brim full. The committee made close en- uiries with regard to the work being one, the effect of the yearly examinations and the promotions made at Christmas. In one room the teacher ave the commit- tees lesson on per folding and explained the moral an educational effect it had upon the Part I pupils. The trustees were much pleased with their first lesson. Some of the outbuildings were found in none toogood a condition, ice and snow bein in abundance. During the cold west or it is almost impossible tokeep out- buildings in a desirable state. On Tuesday last several of the principals received in- structions to have the caretakers give more attention to these parts of the school premises. The committee also found the furniture in several of the rooms in Catoraqui school too large altogether for the pupils. Many of the little ones are actually compelled to climb on to the _edgse of the seats in order to write. In the junior third class room the desks are the highest in the city; in fact they are higher then the ordin- ary olce desk. In Miss Davis mom,Wel- lington street school, the desks are also much too high for the class. The result is. that ood work with the pen cannot be ac- comp ished. All the teachers were found in their pieces, and not a._v single grievance was hee . "i MISSIONARY TO THE ESQUIMAUXV -10 II! IIIIIIII `I `.4 Woodstock. Ont. ` BRANCH WAREROOM. 5|`! n.-I...-4...
