A law {acts relating thereto might not ho out of place at the present time. This year the elections were run on the hall question, and the south end of the township was vic- torious by eight votes. The north end voted for men pledged at the hnstings to build in the centre, and the south for men pledged not to build until submitting a poll for the selection of a site by the ratepayers. Now, how have the elected members kept their pledge. At the lirst sitting of thelcouncil board they passed a by-law to proceed forth with and build a hall at Barrieeld. without first appealing to the electors as they pro- mised to do. Was this honest ? I coiitciid that :1 large number of the electors who voted for those men voted for them with the expectation that they would fulfil their pledges. A considerable number of the said voters have not been in favour of any hall. and expected them to cast their votes ac- cordingly. Again, is it not a fact that those men do not represent the majority of the electors on this question 9 Is it right that sixty-seven (07) voters, residing in Barrie- tiold, including Stracban's l1lliit.`t'S, who only pay In or thereabouts yearly in taxes for township urposes. and who received out of said fund 300 over and above which is paid for repairs to roads in that vicinity, I say is it right that they should control, by their votes, the farming community of this town- ship? I know it is law. but is it just Again. is it advisable to put a township hall at said lace, at one end of a township that is 11 mi as long? Have the centre and rear no rights that these men. composing the present oouncil, will respect 9 Do they think we are slaves, that they can trample upon us with impunity? Time will tell.
