Washington, Feb, M.~dn the senate on Saturday afternoon, a fist fight occurred between senators McLaurin and Tillman, both of South Caro lina. McLaurin arose and said that a statement that Tillman had wade re- harding him was a "wilful, deliberate and malicious lie." Tillman jumped over chairs and struck McLaurin = in the face. Both men clinched and struck franti- cally at each other, when assistant sergeant-at-arms Layton sprang between them, and senators rushed be tween the men and parted them. Sixty- four men reported to have been killed or wounded during a fight which occurred on the Montenegrin frontier, between Albanians and Turk- ish regular troops. The trouhle was due to the recent assassination of an Albanian chief, Mylagzeka. The latter's clansmen demanded the surrender of the murderer, failing which they at- tacked a force of Turkish frontier troops. The fighting still continues. -------------- Dr. Fee Elected. The metal workers have accepted a nine-hour day in Castellon and work has been resumed, The strike that was th:eat- ened in the capital here has been averted. While three anarchists were testing explosives in a field at Sarra, near Barcelona, they were surprised by two rural guards. The anarchists attack ed them, killing one and wounding the other. Thomas, of Chicago, have been refused passports to visit the South African concentration camps by secretary Hay, of the state depart ment at Washington. Dr. and Mrs. Thomas intended going to Africa to distribute money for use of the camp prisoners. Secretary Hay, it is sta- ted, gave as his reason for refusing the passports, that president Roose- velt would object, and consequently be would not make application for them to lord Pauncefote. Pittsharg, Pa., Feb. 24.--Twenty years ago Robert Jellison, Blairsville announced that he was going to die soon. He was well and hearty at the time and people laughed at him. Jellison, however, was sincere, and he gave an order for his burial clothes. The suit was "made, but Jellison didn't die. The clothes were packed away in a ceaar chest and for twenty years they have been preserved by the owner, A few weeks ago a sister of Jellison passed away who had also had her burial-clothing ready for a nuuber of years. Yesterday Jellison called up on one of Blairsville's tailors aid lefy a suit of clothes, with orders to have them pressed as soon ns possible, again saying that his death was near, ------------ In Meniory Of Hugo. Paris, Feb: 24.~Great preparations ave. been completed for the national celebration of the one hundredth birthday of Victor Hugo, which falls to-morrow. The celebration, which which has been arranged for by M. Waldeck Rousseau and his colleagues in the government, will be one of the largest and most imposing scale. Re presentatives of French art and. litera ture, all of the highest distinction, will participate, and the festival will be in a special sense such a one as the masses may join in. M.For Stanislaus Lacroix, the condemned murderer in Hull jail, has refused fooas. He holds no conversation with his guards apd turns his back when addressed. "Take it away, 1 want nothing to eat." are the words he ut ters when his meals are offered to hima. Yesterday he ate nothing. His last meal was dinner on Thursday. Shortly afterwards the final news of his fate was brought to him and since the he has refused food. Oc casionally he takes a sip of water. The enforced fast and the terrible mental and nesvous strain he is suffer ing under ave developing signs of a break in his health. Unless he par takes of food soon there will be a collapse, followed, perhaps, by death, Last night he slept but little. Hix guards stated, on Saturday, that the doomed man dozed off occasionally into a fitful sleep, lasting at no time longer than thirty minutes: repeated ly be awoke with a start and paced ais cell. His chief solace is his pipe, which he smokes during the waking moments of the night, ax well as dur ing the day. New Orleans, La., Feb, AU Ofici als of the Illinois Central railroad are working on plans whereby it is ex pected that traffic between Cuba and this city can be greatly increased. Re presentatives of the traffic and pas- senger departments of the road are now in Cuba to settle the final de tails of the plan. The linois Central now uses the Morgan line of steamers plying between Havana and New Or leans, but it is rumored the company may put on its own line. The county commissioners held a meeting to day, and heard the testimony of the claim ants for the $5,000 reward offered for the capture of the Biddles. Mors than a score of persons have made declar in ations that they wore instroamental in the apprehension of the escaped mur derers and the commissioners expect considerable difficulty in waking a fair distribution of the reward.
