Otis' time has been spent in command of the military de- partments of the lakes, with head quarters at Chicago, and of Dakotas, with heaaquarters at St. Paul. Gen. She signed papers to-day by which she will make the sale. This she wil spend in developing other promising sites on the same propecty. ATTEMPT TO ESCAPE. Convicts Burn Stockade in Which They Are Confined. Kosciusko, Miss, March 25.--Five county convicts made an attempt to burn their way out of prison, burning the stockade house in which they ceemating themselves. They were all negroes, The prisoners were let out to Robert Campbell, county contractor, whose farm is situated sixteen miles west of this place, and were all charg od with minor offences. Milwaukee, Wis., March 25.--John Brown, sixteen vears old, living with his parents in this dity, is a victim of bed-rocm gymnastics. Young Brown had read Tn some of the journals of through the use of a pole hunt in the closet, and tried the scheme. When he did not appear at the usual time his parents ' investigated and found bim dead in the closet. British Workmen Coming To Learn New York, March 25.--Alired Mose ley, who is a passenger on the Oceanic which is due to arrive here to-morrow, comes to the Unite States on an in feresting mission. They will be accompanied by newspaper and liter ary méh, and will visit America in or- der to see and Jearn. Mr. Moscley will also defray the expenses of a vis it to the United States at the same time of "a commizsion," whose object will be to inquire into the educational systems of this country. Launch Of Gould's Yacht. New York, March 25.--This is the date set for the launching of Frank J Gould's new and handsome steam yacht, the Helevnite, at the yard of her builders at Morris Heights. The Helenita, which is named "after the wife of the owner, has been built in about one-hundred days. She will be commanded by Capt. B. F. Gardner, and will fly. the pennant of the New York yacht club. The yacht's prin cipal dimensions are 125 feet over all twenty-three feet beam, and ten feet draught. It ie the intention of Mr Gould: to go on an extended eruvise in the yacht as soon as she is completely equipped. 3 Quarantined In A Barber Shop. Pittsburg, Pa., March 25.---A barber shop in Homestead is under guaran tine and barbers and customers are imprisoned in the shop under guard Three of the men are customers,' one of them was getting shaved, and an other had just entered the shop when the officers appeared. All were told they would have to remain prisoners for ten days. Another wan who had just Jeft was rounded up and com pelled at the point of a revolver to return.
