F._HARKISON C0., | position. - THE 14TH REGIMENT MAY GO TO MONTREAL For the Coronation Review--The Men Must Turn Out to Parades Better--Excluding All But Ladies From Galleries. Lieut.-Col, Skinner, commanding the | Mth P.W.0, rifles, hag received an in vitation to take his regiment to Mon treal to join in the Canadian military review on coronation day. The invita tion will be accepted if the regimegt becomes sufficiently efficient by that time. So far this season the parades have heen very small, and unless all ranks take & very much greater interest In their work during the next three weeks the regiment will not go. I, there fore, behooves the Lith men to gather in strength, attend the drills punctu ally and regularly, and maintain the good name of the old regiment. No nonccommissionad officer or man will be allowed to take part in the trip, who does not attend every parade from now to the 26th. With such an excellent band, there is no reason why the 11th should not do as well at the coronation review in Montreal as it did at the royal demonstration in To ronto last October when it was count od equal to the very best regiments in J the country. So far this season the officers found it almost impossible to earry on instruction of the companies and the regiment as a whole, at the. arm onries, on account of the noise made by spectators in the galleries. From now on, Lieut -Col. Skinner has given orders that omy ladies shall mitted into the armeuries on drill evenings. Perhaps the colonel thinks that his regiment will be vrged on to do its very best when the men realize that the eves of the sweet maidens are upon them. COURT OF REVISION. ---- Street Railway Appeals Against Portsmouth Assessment. The Portsmouth court of revision met last evening. The street railway company appealed from its assessment which it claimed was illegal and too high. The assesement is §3,500 for weven-eighths of a mile. Mr. Nickle appeared on behalf of the company. The matter was laid over for two weeks, in order to look into the law. D. Murray appeared for J. B. Car ruthors, and asked that a piece of land rented by the latter to the asvium be assessed to him. This mat ter was also laid over till the court meets again, The assessment of William Ewart, Miss Dillon and William Hurst (on two lots) were each reduced $100, The fol lowing had their dog taxes struck off T. Tobin, Rev. J. 0. Crisp and 1 Houghton, Applications to be placed on the roll were received from P. Mc Gee, J. J. Hughes, 1. PP. Mellwaine, George Sullivan and M. McGuirk. The court adjourned till the 12th, Portsmouth Council. A meeting of the Portsmouth coun cil was held last night, all members present. Several accounts were order od to be paid. The words goose and other poultry, were inserted in the cow by-law, thereby forbidding and making it illegal for them to roam at large. Constable Donaldson was appointed pound keeper, the council to provide a pound. A petition from Frank Hornibrook and others for a sidewalk, it was thought not wise to grant it, as there 18 already one on the oppo=ite ride but a short walk and crossing will be placed in front! of Messrs. Elliott's and Hornibrook's residences, facing the Methodist church. The reeve will look after the cutting of the grass in Aberdeen park. To Honor Sir John's Memory. On Friday afternoon the Macdonald club of the city will pay tribute to the memory of Sir John A. Macdon ald, the anniversary of whose death they will, on that day, celebrate. The usual ceremonies will be held at the grave in Cataraguni cemetery, the cabs leaving the city at 4:30 p.m. Among the speakers will be mayor Shaw, Dr Ryan and F. G. Dunlop, president of the Macdonald club, and others. A hatglsome wreath will be contributed by the club. It is not yet known whe ther thers will be any representatives present from outside the city. ---------- Sold Cigarettes To Boys. It is not alone the tobacco dealers who are responsible for children ob taining cigarettes. These merchants are often wrongly blamed. In one of the public schools a short time ago a hoy made a habit of selling cigar oties to the other hove: He bought a lot of the coffin nails at a time, and retailed them out at two cents each. He did a thriving business, and was making money fast. That boy had the business head of a Jay Gould or o Pierpont Morgan, but at the same time he was teaching the pupils a bad habit. ene -------- Is Now Out Of Tt. W. E. Another ridiculous food fod has been branded by the most competent authorities, A correct diet will not only nourish a particular part of the body, but it will sustain every other part. Yet, however good your food may be, its nutriment ia destroyed by indigestion or dyspepsia. You must prepare for their appearance or pre- vent their coming by taking regular doses of Green's August Flower, the favorite medicine of the healthy mil- lions. A few doses nids digestion, sti mulates the liver to healthy action, purifies the blood, and makes you feel buoyant and Vigorous. The breaking away from coffee is an exceedingly serious problem to many people, especially when headaches fol low leaving off the drug, and dyspep sia and bowel trouble grows more and more serious if the ecofiee is continued, So there you are butween two fires.
