Score Was 8 to 5--The Ninth In- mings Was Lively--General Notes About Various Sports. Apother St. Lawrence international league match was played at Lake Ontario perk yesterday after noon, Ponies defeating the Antwerp, N.Y, team"by 6 to 5. The contest was as close as a mean wan is with his whekels, and the fans were so in verested that they bad no spare time 10 make eyes at any prety girls who might happen to be sitting' in the grand stand. It was a wise "think" of "Chaucer" Flliott when be decided to smite the hall for three cushions i the first in nings, scoring two suns and then trot ving to the plate himself on a § ball, at which "Uncle Sam' cunning swiped for his third strike, and 4 to his heels for bag No. 1. Pierce's hit over second base in the sixth put Antwerp up two points, but Quigley's unassisted double, cut off any more runs. Ponies should have scored more in the eighth, but Ant worp held Derry and Islin on second and third with only one out. The ninth opened dangerously for Ponies, a run being scored with none out, but Quigley cut off Ralph and Pipree at second and third, and Islin caught Agon"s fly. It was the most interesting match played here this season. Antwerp has a good team, and not one decision of the umpire , did the visitors dispute. The spectators accorded them ax much applause us they gave the home team. A couple of the Ponies scemed very tired. Perhaps a tonic would shake off that feeling. "1 think, if Mr. Cheney would eat three meals a day instead of six, he would pitch'a better game," was the remark of a lady in the grand stand. A shift was made in Ponies' team. Jerry" Hunt took a holiday, and Islin was moved to first bag, Derry to second, and Mualholl, the Toronto player, placed on third. * Yeu are rolling so sweetly, darlin', that I don't loike to stop yer," said Quigley to the ball, as if journeyed between his feet to the field, Antwerp .. » 10100020 1-5 Pamien.. % 30011001 2-46 Antwerp--Rolston, s.4.; Ralph, 2b; Pierce, 3b; Buckley, ec; Agon, ri; Aikey, ef; Hardy, 17; Williams, 1b; Dorgan, p. The Gananoque baseballists induced the nvembers of the Antwerp baseball team to drive up to Kingston, with a view to having them drive back again last evening in order to evoss over to Clayton, N:Y., this morhing. They were told that they would be unable to secure suitable cofmmection here to enable them to return home in time to play today's scheduled match, When the Antwerp players got here they found that they had been mis informed, so they sent the Gananoque horses back again, paying a young man £3 to return them. At Kingston Mills--Fell in the Basin Unnoticed--No Outery Heard--Finding of the Body. A drowning accident, under the sad- dest of circamstances, occurred at Kingston Mills, Friday afternoon. Within a short distance of several relatives, Ralph Ferguson, sixteen yoars of age, sank in the water of the hain between the locks and Jost his ife. The boy, accompanied by his uncle and two aunts, went to the Mills to spend a day's outing. After cating lunch, Ralph sat on the bank of the basin to fish, while his older réla tives went about the locks. This was about two o'clock. Shortly after wards a boy found in the water, and immediately algrm- od the party, who rushed to thyfpot. Their fears 'were soon to be i for they hac lad had fallen in and been drowned. Grappling was soon resorted to, and carefully was the large basin dragsed, but it was some time before the body was brought to the surface and laid upon the sward. Efforts at resuscitation proved futile. The ad's watch was found to have stopped at 2:18 o'clock. Coroner Mundell was notified, but decided that no inquest was necessary. The remains were brought to the city, and taken to James Reid's undertaking establish ment to be prépared for burial. Nobody witnessed the drowning or heard any outery, but it is naturally surmised that the boy lost his balance on the bank, and dell in. Being unable to swim, he sank almost immediately, Much sympathy is felt for the sorrow- stricken family over the tragic end ing of the day's outing, \ The deceased. lad was the son Cornelius Ferguson, = gardner, 212 Civision street.
