The invention is patented and has been a source of great profit to the company that ons it. During two smmmers it was use. at various resorts, the vehicles that made the cirenit being placed on irncks and joaded with passengers. It did a whooping business last year at Coney. island. The police became keenly alert to the seeming danger of it, and the story went that the cost of allaving the apprehension cost $i, 56. But when the season was about hali over, and a woman passenger dud of excitement, the police stopped the sport. It was then sain that the cost of renewing the unwritten license was 81 300 more, and that the opera tions were prevented until the price was paid. The danger to riders on the loop railway was really small, unless they had heart disease, as the car was bound to make the circuit unless it quit the track, which was a very un hkely accident. But it is different with a 'bicyele running on a smooth sur face. Centrifugal gravity serves, as in the other case, to send the vehicle un Ger strong momentum around the ner side of the looped track, but po re the rider must maintain a balance on two wheels only and steer them stead ily. A black line guides his eye, but the rest depenas on his nerves and muscles. These men are all called Diavolo and are hired by the com pany that owns and operates the loops. They are said to he paia from 2100 to £250 a week. They practice at a place "near Coney island, aml very few become proficient, Those whe do are sent to pérform at places of fering the most money, One is nov risking his life in London. The mone value of the looping bicveler was shown lately at Columbus, Ohio where the attencance at a big fair was moderate while an advertised looper did not appear--he had been disabled by a fall at Minneapolis but was enormous on the last day when a local athlete volonteered 1 do the feat and. got 1.000 jor it THE CROP PROSPECTS. What 'a Frontenac Farmer Has to Say. Sharpton, July 21.--Hay, which, by the way, is over half clover, is a bis crop. About one-third is cut. Much of this has heen injurea by the wet The rest of the crop is long since fit to cut, but is kept back on account of the unfavorable weather No seri ous injury will result if we get goo weather for saving it soon. There is enough hav to fill the barns, to say nothing of the grain. The plentiful erop has caused the price of hay strike rock bottom. The good pastures cause less hay to be fed. Grain, on the whole, is probably an average crop, at least thirty to forty per cent over last year, Considerable grain was hurt wit} the wet, but then the rest of the cro is «0 much better to make up the dif ference. There is no apparent blight other dause to prevent the grain from filling well. Rye, now being cut is well filled. There is very little fal wheat, hut what there is seems wo In good. The same may be said of spring wheat, but with the exception that the acreage is considerable. Bar lay is fast ripening and will be ready for the reaper in another week. The crop is excellent. There is usually as much oats sown as all other grains put together. This seems to be the case this year. We cannot speak defi nitely as the crop is not so far ad vanced, but the crop on the whole is promising. As for peas there ig very little sown. This is fortunate 'as ag wet year is usually a bad pea vear Buckwheat, which has dul bed "the lazy man's erop," is nicely above ground, and made a goo start. But as to the yield, we can not tell until the automn months. Corn is the least promising among all the crops. One-third doubtful, the remainder promises fairly The cool weather during the month of June is the canse of this. Potatoes are all right, bat the Colorado Bectles arc here in myriads, Crops are very splendid for this has been an ex eeptionally go8ed vear for the garden. Reports indicate that the fruit crop and that the frost in May did: not de the serious injury antici pated, Cheese factories are paying well, the result of good prices and a large flow of milk. Beef cattle, sheep and hogs com mand inir prices, making the farmers' prospects, on. the whole, good, an perhaps better than for years. The wet weather has been quite a serious drawback along the line of having and other work, 1 the weather had been favorable the hay would now. be all saved. Farm help is very scarce ana wages are unusually high. This, in its way, keeps back barvesting, as help cannot elwavs be bad when re quired.
