For a few days the thermometer stood between ninety, and 100 degrees in the shade. but a pleasant breeze made the. heat endurable. One thi might be said in praise of this climate: No matter how hot and sultry the day, the even- ing is always cool and delightiul. We have read accounts of very disastrous electric storms in many parts of On- tario. but *so far we have had no seri- ous thunder storms in this vicinity. There hav@ been 'a few hail storms, which 'passed in streaks over the country, doing slight damage in some places. Some one claimed to have filled a medium-sized bowl with the water from five melted hail-stones. There is prospect. of an. abundant harvest. If the conditions all remain favorable, #thi® vear will be a fine lift for the farmers, and consequentiy for merchants and townspeople generally. The griat disadvantage to farmers is that the expense of harvesting is very eat, and if the wheat has any slight it is graded away down, and the price received barely pays expen However, the very lowest grade ds exvellent breage and it has even been said that a poor- grade of wheat (so-called when the helpless farmer selling) very often becomes a much better grade by the time it reaches Fort William. The farmers should combine and stand up for their rights. A large number of people from here took in the, manv attractions of - the Winnipeg exhibition. The town of Carman continues to grow rapidly. For your readers, who have not had the pleasure of a visit to this charming Manitoba centre, a short description may be -interesting. The town is situated on the Boyne River, which winds in and out within its deep banks, necessitating the use of many brid which add to the picturesqueness of the scenery. The river is everywhere covered ith large trees and shrubbery, waking iiany natural parks and coz to the avai of pleasure-seckers.
