Black and Thomas Letts. Mr. Black also lost a flock 'of thirty sheep. Two miles further south at Egan Creek, the Rathbun company's office buildings were all swept away. Men who were at dinner barely having time to escape from the house, not saving their clothes or trunks. Here for about four hours at 'the railway siding they fought' to save {he Rath- bun company's wood and by so doing sa%ed about fifteen cars belonging to the railway. Just «south of this at Baskin's grade, several families by name of Reid lost houses and all their effects except what they buried in the sand. At Spring Lake, about two miles of timber were consumed. Outside of the families who were hutned out, probably the heaviest los- ers are John McKenzie, the Rathbun ompany, all = of whom lose immonse auantities of poles, wood, logs, cedar, wie. . ARE UNDER ORDERS. To Proceed to Montreal to Re- lieve the Volunteers. Orders were received here last night have a detachment of the R.C.F.A. held in readiness to proceed to Mon- treal. The order came late in the evening, when most of the men had left barracks. Immediately, however, scouts were sent out to warn all ab- mentees to report at once in barracks and be prepared fo leave the city by midnight. A number of the men were in the opera house, and the order calling them to barracks was announced from the stage. Most of the married men were at home, and these were notified that their presence was required at headquarters. The men paraded at about ten o'clock, and after being no- tified what thew weré needed for, they were permitted to turn in for the night, the married men being allow- ed to return home, but warned to be in readiness for instant summons. Fifty-five men were selected = from "A" and eighteen from "B" battery, Capt, Lesslie will' likely be detailed to take charge of the 'squad. The men will be armed with = carbines: Horses will not be taken, Up te noon the order to proceed to the scene of the strike had not been received, but it was thought that before sun down it-would eome to hand. The men are not anxious to go, but will make the best of the trip to enjoy the outing: The sergeants detailed to accom- pany the detachment are Slater, Bra- mah, Henderson and Hazleton. Must Ship By Boat. Local cheese buyers < have been un- able to ship cheese by rail to Montre- al since the strike of longshoremen nt that point has been in progress. The railroad companies: have refused to moeept. consignments, and shippers have had to depend upon steamboats altogether to carry their shipments of cheese 'to: Montreal. 'As a result every east-bound steamer leaving this port carties a great deal of extra freight, which under ordinary circumstances they would not get. Biology Department Moved. The biological department of Queen's, which has been in the medical building since its introduction as a separate study over ten vears ago, is being removed to the old arts' build- ing.
