A TERM THAT MADE THE MAN WINCE. During The Address The Mani- toulin Man Showed His Poli- tics And a Grossly Insulting Manner--Backed Up By Con- servative Members With a Few Exceptions. Toronto, June 19%~--Dr. Beattie Nes: bitt spent the morning session in con: tinuing his attack upon the judges' report and presenting a formidable lot of affidavits, which were more in- teresting than the ineffective reading implied. They had to do with what Frank Sullivan's father-in-law, George B. Wilson, said when over in Roches- ter. The first affidavit was from T. H. W. Leavitt, conservative organiz- er; another was from A. C. Davis, an insurance agent in Rochester, both of whom were subpoenaed as wit- nesses before the commission, but not heard. A third affidavit was from George Pakner, a clerk in the Nation- al hotel, Rochester. The affidavits set out that Wilson had told Davis that he wis over in Rochester to escape being a witness in Toronto. Wilson said that Gamey had been bought hv Stratton for 85,000, and that he, Wil- gon, had been given $500. to go out of the country, so that he would not be around to give it away. Wilson, also according to the affidavit, said he had heard of the business from Frank Sullivan, when the latter had been visiting him in Newmarket, and who added that Sullivan was to get 2500. if Stratton was cleared. In con- clusion. Dr. Nesbitt arraigned liberalism and landed conservatism as a re sponse to Mr. Cameron's grand pero- ration last evening. A dramatic scene occurred when Dr. Nesbitt referred to the late member for Parry Sound as a parallel to Ga: mey. To the party consternation Mr. Beatty, present conservative member for Leeds, called a halt. His brother was elected as an independent conser: vative, and before supporting the lib: eral government went back to the people and was endorsed. . He would not allow him to be referred .to in unfair terms. The quietest five 'min utes of the session followed. Tite Hero Of The Hour. Before. crowded galleries, member Gamey began his defence at the after- nooh: opening, receiving an ovation from the opposition. He declared, as a sthrter, that he had not been giv- on a fair hearing, having been cut off like a dog, while every allowance was given to other witnesses to amend and correct, especially the 'great Aylesworth." No government had ever been reported against or fallen under a judge's commission (Pacific scandal evidently forgotten). Why was he not allowed to nominate a third judge ? He had no personal solici- tor, whereas if a couunittee had held the enquiry his friends - would have heen there to sustain him. He referred to the judges as "high muck-a- mucks," and added that the chancel- lor was the last man to discover fraud or bad deeds. Fhe judge had put his name to a report absolutely false. He (Gamey) declined to sink low to exchange personal abuse with the "great mogul of West Huron." A charge that the premier had made a knowingly false statement on the returning officership brought that leader to his feet in correction, though the liberals did not desire to take notice of him. His manner was grossly insulting, but the conserva tive members increased their almost continuous plaudits. He referred to a statement of the provincial. secretarv as "'a rat of the provincial secretary himseli." He addressed Mr. Stratton personally and was called to order a second time by the premier, then hy the speaker and Mr. Whitney. To the last named he replied, "1 will address anyone you say." That "religious monstrosity," editor of the Globe, had referred to him as a Titus Oates, an appelation he could return with interest. The Deposit Receipt. He spent half an hour in answering Mr. Stratton on details of evidence, then dealt with charges against him- oli. He regretted some things he had done; but he was. open. to the charge of self-exaltation as heroio He was only prompted by a desire to change bad government. He regretted omit ting the $1,200 deal in his stateinent to the legislature, asked about it in the court; he over jooked it in his shame over deals with Sullivan. He was accused of running away while the srovincial secretary stood his ground, but he was cau- viowely at bay, fortifed by body guards, and provincial detectives. Heo (Gamey) had lead out and was still in the fight and no coward. He had more evidence but he would not give it away in the house this time, but present it in good season. He dread- ol a protest and its expense and pos- sible lors of seut; therefore he had to deal with those scoundrels, meeting the devil with fire. This was his only excuse for entering the nefarious work. fle had used his brains 'as best could, and extracted enough to some political "existences. Here he sa- tended to cloze his speech, but the shouts, "Go on' encouraged him to take up a score of yhaiges against the judges of unfairness.
