The Ht of attrac- tions is good, and wel arranged. Miss Cathetine La Tour and Mr. Gil- mour gave some amusing character sketches, which were wall. received. The illustrated songs by Messrs. Reed and Flynn were appropriate to the beautiful scenes depicted on the can- vas. They were rendered with much taste and feeling apd were loudly ap- lauded. That heautifal song, "Ring Down the Curtain 1 Can't Sing Te- night," 'was given with much effect and touched the emotional nature of many in the andience. The other songs were "Day by Day," and "When They Weré Two Little Boys." In the second part Miss La Tour sang two charming songs, while Mr. Brown .was very amusing -with' his humorous songs and sketches. The movable pie- tures, by Prof. Dele, kept the house in roars of laughter by the original scenes they exhibited, The whole pro gramme was a credit to the company. FORMED AN AS SOCIATION. The company given a rush order for 1,000 new box cars, 500 to be built at the Montreal shops, and the other 500 to be built by the Am- erican Car company, Detroit. On Monday, a Gananoque woman dropped" her purse, containing a good sum of money, on the steamer Jessie Bain coming to Kingston. She did not nies it till she landed, and immediate- 1y reported her loss at the Ferry of fico: Fortunately, the missing article fell into honest hands. Miss Sullivan, Barrie street; returni from camp at Howe Island, with rwister, had picked up the purse, and Jeft it with Mr. Stansbury, who returned it to the unhappy owner. Dangerously Ill. Miss Connolly, a New York young lady, is usly ill of typhoid fever at the General Hospital. She was taken sick in Clayton ten days while visiting friends, and was bronght to Kingston for treatment. The Canadian Pacific railway com pany has been doing a good deal onstruction work on 'its Ontario on this year. This has consisted ly of the replacing of old' rails with eighty-pound rails, and was ren- dered necessary by the heavier charac ter of the engines and rolling, stock now! being used The former engines, like old horses, 'awe being relegated to side lines, where traffic is not so great. On the main lines the tendency is 'to ceonomize hy introducing heavy engines to draw larger "trains, in or- der. to keep. up with the expansion of freight business. During the year, in addition to the building of bridges, replating of ties, * etc.; about sixty miles of new ecighty-pound rails have been laid.
