CRAWFORD, It came upon e ba p+ ht ae car-- That glorious soug of Told Of angels bending near the earth To touch their Harps of god. Sul trough. the cloven skies they come With peaceful wing unfurled And still their heavenly music floats O'er all the Weary world. This, ae oll, is he real, abiding joy of the Christmas time--the coming of the Holy Child, and the 'Peace, good will to men," from the herald 'angel choirs. The one great holy fact, which lies behind (go good cheer, whether we realize it or not. Other joys may pain us, othér merriment jar, but the Christmas jo and merriment never, for underneat it, its cause, and never- failing spring, lie the * 'glad tidings of great joy to all people." But nit must be a pause in the rush, a stop, even in our works of charity, a withholding for a mo- ment, from the giving of gifts, lest we miss the chiming of the Christmas belis, lest we fail to see the angels on their carthward mission of peace, A glimpse of the real cause of our rejoicing at this #eason must come to us in our own individual selves, or se our feasting, and our giving, are emptied of the deepest of: their joy. Maybe it, will come at one time, may- be at another, maybe when we're with the little children, maybe as we cheer the aged poor; maybe as we twine the "box and the fir tree together to make glorious the place of the sanctuary," maybe, again we'll have to wait till all the preparation is over, till the work we were sure we couldn't finish, is all done, when the letters we knew we couldn't write, are stamped and in the post office, when the last stitch is taken, the last parcel for our own home people tied up, when we sit in the quiet of the after-midnight, wait ing for the dawn which ushers in the happiest day of all the year. And its only by the light of this glimpse of the unseén that we éan sing the Christ. mas music with heart' and voice in tune, that we can give or receive gifts in the true spirit, that our "Merry Christmas" will have the true mirth- ful ring. «Ce Te The season which is specially given over to the children, and their fun, (and who with a better right to it), was begun by Mrs. St. Pierre Hughes' party for her son Laughlin, on Tues day.
