DEATH OF WILLIAM HAZLETT. Passed Peacefully Away Christmas Afternoon. . While. the happiness which Christmas brings reigned supreme in nearly every household, the. silent ease of death entered the home of W. Hazlett, Sr., Frontenac = street, Friday, and summoned his spirit to its eternal rest. The end was not unexpected, as the deceased ' had been critically ill for some weeks, The late Mr. Hazlett was born in the county of Derry, Ireland, over seventy-four years ago, early in life left home, settling at Paterson, N.J. Over fifty yeard ago, while the Grand Trunk railroad was under con- struction, he came to Kingston to enter the employment of Ontario Foundry--now the Locomotive Works --under the superintendency of F. H. Tatton. Subsequently he entered the employment of the firm of Calvin & Breck, Garden Island, and for over forty years was foreman of the boiler shop of that firm and its successors. He was a skilful mechanic, and under his supervision some fine pieces of w hip were turned out. The deceased is survived by his life- long partner, four s--Jolin, me- chanical tcatont for A. w. A "REALLY" SANTA CLAUS. Scheme Carried Out [Christmas Eve. Thursday night many children of de- serving poor parents throughout the city were delighted with a visit from a "really" Santa Claus, who gave to them freely from a large pack such things as candies, toys, etc, much to their great pleasure. The idea of the outing had its origin among the members of the bible class of St. George's cathedral, who contri- buted generous sums, and a large as forthe of seasonable things were A list of about 150 families was pre- pared, irrespective of creed or color, and shortly after seyen o'clock Santa Claus, ably represénted by A. C. Dun- bar, accompanied by Rev. G. L. Starr, entered hig chariot and was whisked off on his commendable mission. When Mr. Dunbar became fatigued in the task, Mr. Starr took up the cause and carried it through. It was after mid- night when they had completed their rounds, and. many a story they can "tell of joy brought to many a home that Santa Claus would have missed had it not been for the thoughtfulness of the members of the bible class.
