This is a good sign of an increasing sympathy towards the unfortunate that is being incul- cated into the young. Another interesting feature of the entertainment was the presentation to R. J. Diack, the energetic secretary, of a fine clock. After the children's en- tertainment, s r was served io the teachers and officers, who concluded the night's event by drinking several toasts. The House of Industry was remem- bered by the greatest number, but there were gifts also for the Orphans' Home, and some handsome ones for the Infants' Home. Six classes made contributions to the Honan mission in China, where Rev. Harvéy Grant, missionary, is smpported by the young people of the presbytery of Kingston. Sixteen scholars, teachers and officers had regular attendance and - good work recognized by special gifts. Two boys, Melville Arniel and William Chenaghan had been present at every session of the school for five years, and several of the girls had also an excellent record. The 'presentation to Mr. Diack being made by Mr, Laird, Mr. Diack has been not only most re- gular in attendance for over two years, hut also thoroughly satisfac- tory in the management of his de- partment. Mr. Laird was given a first- class fountain pen by the boys of his class. James Craig, superintendent, was chairman. " At Queen Street Methodist.
