I consulted a doctor but got no re- ief and was completely discouraged. I did not think I would live long and expect- *d my friends would find me dead. A friend brought me a box of Milburn's Heart and Nerve Pills and I took them to please her, not thinking they would do me any good. London, May 6.--Six years' penal servitude was the sentence passed at the Middlesex quarter sessions om a man who had deliberately trained ih fourteen-year-old son to burglar, The story told by the bor Alired George Everctt, was of the most remarkable character. He lived with his parents, Edward and Sarah Ann Everett, at Enfield. In selecting houses for his son to enter Everett chose those at which he had worked as a painter, and the iuteriors of which he consequently, knew. His in- structions were minute and clear. On one occasion, the boy related, his father said to him: "The best way tg enter a house is by the back window. 1 said, "Yes, that will be out of the way of-the police.' He .| then got a white Dandi knife and two pieces of wood, and placing the knife between the pieces of wood show- ed me how to force the catch back, and said, "When that is done you can get in at the window, then take your boots off. Then when you think it is past six o'clock come out and as if you are walk quick, then walk work, and home." "' The lad did exactly as he was told. He got into the grounds of a house known as Holmeside at night, waited until five o'clock in the morning, and entered by forcing the catch of the drawing-room window. He carried the booty home to his father, who sold it for five shillings and gave him two-pence for himself. On the next occasion he broke into Holmescroft, which adjoins Holmeside, in a similar way, and among the things. which he took away in a sack yas a picce of Christmas pudding. "That ain't much," was his father's comment on the fruits of the robbery. Twelve days later, the lad made his third essay in burglary; taking a bag and a knife with him. He was cap- tured on leaving by a constable, and, true to orders he had received, he tried his best to mislead the police to shield his father. The mother was ac- quitted on the charge of receiving stolen goods. The lad was sent to a reformatory for four years. going sry e-------------- Clothing Made To Order. 'of Baker's laundry, 347 and 349 Sparks street, had a narrow escape from injury on Thurs- tween eight and nine o'clock one of the tubes in the big water tube boiler fell out. The eséaping steam made a violent report, blew the con- tents of the fire hole all over the place, and was Hie cause of several arge panes of glass being broken. It sent the girls a women employed screaming into the street. Some of the men about the laundry were cov- ered with cinders and the flying em- bers were strewn broadcast. Carleton Place, Mav 6.-- William Hall, of Addison, Leeds, count tra- velling agent for the George White & Sons Engine company, of London, Ont., was accidentally killed here. A traction engine belonging to Andrew Cram was being used to draw a heavy load, and Mr. Hall was assist- ing in running the engine. A sudden movenient over a slight obstruction, seems to have thrown Mr, Hall against the end of the machine, where he was severely crushed between it and the heavv truck or the steam launch that was loaded upon it. His body struck against the glass water guage at the end of engine boiler and the steam and water rushing out of the broken tube scalded the unfortunate man's body in a frightful manner. SHOOTING ACCIDENT. Bridgvesin Nearly Ended His Life A serious shooting accident occur- red in Bridgewater on Saturdav, as a result of which John Pye, came near losing his life. His explanation of the. accident is that he had been annoved for several mornings by birds outside his bedroom, and on Saturday he hed under his bed for his rifle to fire it in order to frighten them away. In drawing the weapon from under the bed it was accidentally dis- charged and the ball entered his left and passed just below his under the arm pit.
