In the afternoon a gythnasium pro- gramme was given under direction of Physical Instructor Beall, and was taken part in'by several members of the gymnasium classes who demon- strated their proficiency in many gymnastic feats. "Among the features were, class apparatus work on parallel bars, side parallel work on bouncing boards, and a new drill known as the barbell drill, which was much ad: mired. A competition between a city team and a students' team in two new games known as *'skinning the snake" and a "medicine ball hustle," resulted in the two teams coming off with. equal honors; the 'students win- ning the first event, and the city men proving their superiority in the latter, A basket ball game between two picked teams vaptained by T. Mercer and A. Smith, resulted 'in a victory for the latter team by the score 19 to 15. In the evening a concert was held in the gymnasium, 'which was comfort ably filled by an appreciative audience. The different rooms were artistically decorated with ~~ ever-green mottos worked in different designs with a good display of flags and bunting. In the lecture room a very fine display of calendars was made, covering almost entirely the three walls of the room. The decorations, * throughout, were much adwired, and reflect great credit upon the ladies and gentlemen who showed great energy and skill in their arrangement. The concert was presided over by Edw. 3. B, Pense, who made a. fow graceful remarks before calling upon the various persons taking part in the programme. A piano duet was played by Miss Lettie Walker and Allan Lom- mon in a finished manner and two piano solos by Miss Daisy Chown dis- played her marked ability as a pianist of merit. A vocal solo "My Dreams," by Miss Hazel Massie, was heartily encored. A quartette by Messrs, H. Crumley, A. McMahon, W, Manhard and Allan Lemmon, was very fine. Re. citations hy Miss Ada Chown were much enjoyed, and she was recalled several times. Mrs. A. Nelson alse sang a solo in excellent voice. Arthur Craig and Nicholas O'Connor, both well known talented = soloists, were heard to advantage. During the inter val between the parts of the pro- gramme and at different times during the evening, the Y.M.C.A. orchestra rendered several fine selestions. The proceeds of the silver collection which was taken at the door, amount: od to about twelve dollars, and this sum will be used in purchasing new gymnasium apparatus, The concert throughout was very high class and deserving of the greatest praise. a AGAINST A COMMISSION.
