A. match to-night between the local Frontenaes and the fast Smith's Falls aggregation will, practically open the hockey season in Kingston, and from now till the close of the season, lovers of this fast win- ter sport will be supplied with abund- ance of this variety of excitement. The Frontenacs have been unfortun- ate in losing the services of their wing man, Russell Derry, who is out of the game for a week, with a cut foot. His place will be taken by Seale, whose ability as a hard-working and effective hockeyist is well known in these parts. Powell on the other wing is putting up a good article of hoc- key, and with Seale his old.side part- ner, should get in some good combin- ation work. Herb. Clarke and Potter, the two speedy young centres, require no word of commendation; suffice it to say that those who travel in their class must be the very best. The Fron- tenac defence is very strong, and al- though the Smith's Falls forwards are conceded to be good scorers, they will require all their ability to get the preciousi rubber through the little cage, guarded by the ever-vigilant Macdonnell. L Smith's Falls have an advantage in having already played three games, this season, but the locals have "had gome good practices, and are in the best of shape. Many of the local wiseacres have been prophesying an ignominious de- feat for the locals to-night, but the game will certainly be worth watch: ing, and the Frontenacs, with any kind of luck, should pull out the first game with a victory to their ére- dit. Let all local hockey enthusiasts turn out at the rink to-might, and give our boys all the vocal and financial support possible, 3 "Chaucer" Elliott will referee the game.
