The Walking Stick Crackers Have Many Citizens Almost Crazy-- They Go Off With Startling Effect. "A Sufferer'" writes to the Whig : There is a very strong feeling against this unbearable nuisance, even more intolerable than the dog nuisance, for, turn or go where one may, the nerve wrecking crack, crack, crack of toys in the hauds of boys, is heard. The nuisance is a great annoyance to the sick and nervous, and the well also, for it is playing havoc with every one, whether sick or well, and is proving a t source of distress to every one, there no law provided to put a st to this unbearable outrage ? 1f there is whose business is it to sup- press it? Is it to go on with impun- ity forever and unceasingly ? We also want to know if it is legal for the shops to keep and-to sell these ex- plosives, chiefly caps, bombs, fire crackers, and so on. If it is then no- thing can be said by way of objection to that feature, wrong as it is. Bat surely common sense parents have gumption enough not to furnish their children with funds with which to se- cure this disturbing element, nor to buy them for their youthful offspring. They surely are not unmindful of the suffering to their fellow-citizens caused by . this disturbing - and dangerous nuisance. There is danger also = of fire caused thereby, for it is indulged in in yards and sheds, as well as on the streets. Let there be a stop. put to it, for it is painful in every way, ex- pensive, makes children bold, - and therefore a mistaken source of 'amuse- ment.
