Gildersieeve Speaks About K.S. F. and 0. Railway. C. F. Gildersleeve was asked this morning if there was anything further to report concerning the Kingston, Smith's Falls and Ottawa railway, which has had its charter extended by parliament, and whose line is expeot- td to be assumed by the Grand Trunk company, in order that the latter may acquire a shorter line to Toronto. Mr. Gildersleeve stated that it was quite possible the G. T. R. would assume control. Its policy now was one of ex- pansion, and the route from Ottawa to Kingston, is much more favorable than a back route, because of the con- fection ' at Kingston with the main line of the G. T. R. It has not yet been decided whether the road from Ottawa to Smith's Falls will pass through Manotick or Richmond. F. Nickle appeared for the defense and argued that his - client did not come within the law regarding transi- ent "traders, as Barnack had no fixed place of business and made no sales of goods from his lodging place. Mr. Nickle claimed that the by-law was not émtended to prohibit this or sim- ilar business done by bona fide ped- dlers who have taken out the nécessary license. The case was enlarged for a week and in the meantime Barnack will continue to peddle "at his peril."
