Sewell Suceambs to Diphtheria. Ward was received in the city, this morning, of the death on Saturday, May ah, of Rev. Charles Ernest Sewell, Presbyterian missionary in the state of Vermont, to which post he was ted only a few days ago. Mr. Sewell caught a severe cold some time and this finally developed into diphtheria and all that medical #kill could do was of no avail. : Mr. Sewell was a young man in his twenty-ninth year, of sterling quali- ties and in his death the Présbyterian society of America, have lost a faith: ful worker, 'y man, one true to his church his God, putting i deeds before everything else, hat makes his death doubly sad is the fact that Mr. Sewell was only married last February, his bride being a Miss Susie Allen, a popular young lady of Kingston, Ont., residing at 137 Union street, To her his death comes with a crushing blow, leaving a void in her young life that can never be filled. Be- sides his young widow, an aged mo- ther left to mourn the loss of a de voted son. The funeral was strictly private, services being held at the grave. Special to Whig. ; Rontreal, Nay 35--The Royal Trust company has issued a circular to the shareholders of the Montreal Cotton company, on behalf of a syndicate which offers tq take thoir present shares, and give them $100 in six per cent. bonds, and 233.33 in seven per cent. preferped stock. The offer is un- derstood to be made in the interests of those who are desirous of getting the Montreal Cotton company into the Dominion Textile merger, The offer holds good until June 5th. The remains of the late Bishop Maec- donell, Alexandria, Ont., were re- moved, this afternoon, from the Hotel Dicu. to a special . fumeral car at Bonaventure station, which was at- tached to the Canada Atlantic ex- press. A number of prominent resi dents of Alexandria and Glengarry came to. Montreal to accompany the body home, and attended the special service, which took placé in the priests' hall of the Hotel Dieu, prior to the removal of the bady. The mystery surrounding the disap pearance, last November, of. Alliscn Haig Sims, a well-known Montregler, was solved. to-day, by the find'ng of his body in the St, Lawrence, op- posite Maissoneuve.
