Enquiste 'Asks for Fourteen Days at Manila to Repair and Coal --Vladivostok to be Besieged at Once. Special to the Whig. Manila, June 5.--~An unofficial report states that Rear-Admiral Enquiste, commander of the heavy cruiser squad- ron of the Russian fleet, who arrived here, on Saturday evening, on board his flagship, the protected cruiser Au- rora, accompanied by the protected cruisers, 'Oleg and Jemtohug, has ask- ed for fourteen days in which to re pair, coal and provision his ships. The cruisers are all damaged below the water line, which renders them unsea- worthy. Rear-Admiral Train, the Am- erican navikl commander, has appoint- ed a board to investigate the condi tion of the warships. The warships are badly damaged -that they are forced to keep their pumps going con: tinually. They undoubtedly will be in terned there. Admiral Enquiste says that his squadron was complete wien it entered the fight on the morning of May 27th. He exchanged shots with the enemy at 1,000 yards, He' attempted pierce the Japa- nese line, and make a dash for Vladi- vostok, but he was attacked hy eruis ers and torpedo hoats, and forced to make a running fight. The main at tack of the Japanese was concentrat- ed on the Russian battleships. Ad miral Enquiste's own flagship was sunk, and he transferfed his flag to the Aurora. He was ultimately obliged to flee to the gouth-west, taking that course at ten o'clock on Saturday night, and succeeding in making his escape, 'with three of his ships, in the darkness. The Russians did not know that the fight had continued on Sun- day, and they were dumbfounded when they received the mews of the result. Yonkers Lad Victim of Peculiar ~Cuare of Meningitis. New York, June8.--A peculiar' case of coma accompanying cerebro mening tis is reported in Yonkers, where Jo- seph Canopi, the six-year-old son of a contractor, has slept fifty-eight days. All efforts to arouse him have failed, but the doctors believe that if he sur- vives a few days more they will suc ceed in dissolving a blood clot on the brain and save him. The boy fell ill directly after he had eaten a v supper. That night he lapsed iftto unconsciousness, has remained so over since.
