When the party reached Lachine a special train was in waiting, and it was between one and two o'clock this morning when they got here instead of the previous evening. They are the guests of the city for a drive to-day, and leave to-morrow for Portland, and the lower provinées, General Manager McNicol, of the CR, stated, to-day, that negotia- tions respecting the cantilever bridge near St. John, N.B.; are still in pro- gress, and that no definite statement can be made as to the outcome. Halifax, June 19.=Saturday after- noon, Fred, O'Neil, a seventeen-year- ol lad, of Digby, N.S., found. little Tima Young in the scrub woods ab- out a mile back from the settlement of Plympte, and an hour later his brother, Clifford, a boy of twelve, came upon the remains of six-year-old May Ward, about a quarter of a mils farther back, The children had been missing since five o'clock the night be- fore, The lads were two of a search party numbering about twenty-five, who had been looking for the children twenty hours. When found; the baby, a beautiful chill a year and a hali old, was lying on its face, trussed hand and foot. with its own cotton hood, which had heen rolled up and "bound tightly across ite face, covering. mouth and nose, and, with a faded orange hair ribbon, its chubiy hands had been hound up under its chin. In its struggles to free its hands the wad of cotton which stopped the month and nose had been displaced, and suffocation was so prevented, May Ward, when found, was dead. In her case the hands and feet were bound, but across the mouth and nose was a large burdock lea¥, over this the child's hood had been tightly drawn, and around and around was bound a quantity of rope yarn. Suffocation must have quickly foHowed. The parentage of the children is possibly open to question. The elder, May Ward, is said to be the child of May Ward, formerly of New London, Conn, later of Boston, where she died a couple of years ago, and who was a sister of Mary Hope Young, the woman who is bound to figure in the developments, The baby is the child of this Mary Hope Young, who claims to have been the wife of Fred. Young, a Boston lawyer, who. died somewhat over a year ago, The man with whom she has beon living is Kingsley Melan- son, a laborer. PITH OF THE NEWS. The Very Latest Culled From All Over The World.
