THEY ARE STARVING FORSOOK ALL TO FOLLOW A FANATIC. They Are Paying Dearly Now for It--His Followers Are Losing Faith in Him---The 'Adults Are Too Weak to Work Now. Durham, Me., July 2R.---The follow- ers of Rev. Frank W, Sandford, leader of the Holy Ghost and Us Bible socie ty, are starving. Until two. or three days ago, they lived on mush and water, and cornbread, but, to-day, it is said their supply of meal is ex- hausted and they have no money to buy mare. Since Sunday morning they have been living on green peas and beans, of which they had a limited amount on their farms. This green stuff they eat without butter or seasoning. All "of the crops at Shiloh are spunted and in a few days they will be even with- out. green stuff. At present there are 800 people at Shiloh, and many of them physical wrecks. Words fail to describe the shocking condition now | existing among ,Sandford's followers. The people are discouraged. Many are losing faith in their leader's power ito save and some have already run away Pa DREADFUL ACCIDENT Happened on An English Rail- way accident for fifteen ¥Yeams, occurred, last even- ing, on the trified section of the Lancashire Yorkshire railway. Twenty-two petsons, including = several children, were killed and an unknown number, but sed to be few, injur- od. An electric $%press, which left Liv. erpool crowded 'with passengers, crash. ed into the resir of an empty train standing on g Wide track at the Hall Road station, at Southpoty, ~The front car of the express was complete: turned and one or two cars caught fire, It is not clear whether thers were many casualties from the fire. It seems that most of the dead were killed instantly, The collision lifted the first car of the express completely off the frame and ertshied it down on the pas- sengers, twenty of whom were killed outright. ~ More of them would have been killed but for the nee of mind of 4 Liverpool. architect, who, seeing that a collision was inevitable, shouted to his fellow passengers to throw them- selves upon the floor of the car, Almost immediately the wreckage burst into flames. Many women on the platform fainted. TO DISCOURAGE CZAR. Was This Object of Visit. Kaiser's Special to Petersburg correspondent telegraphs "I am assured on the best authority visit to the czar was to disourage him from the hill-top. A young man who recently escaped | from Shiloh, called at the home of a Durham farmer for food. He left little | money in the treasury and scant pro- | visions. He is now in the Holy Land | and does not intend to return before | the fall. During his absence "Moses" | Charles Holland is in charge, and the | prayers of "Moses' avail nothing. For the past month comtitions have been going from had to worse until now | the only thing that can prevent dis i bandment at Shiloh is the prompt re- | turn of the leader from Egwvpt. Since the law eourt ruled against Sandford in, both the Dunlop ease and the case of his cruelty toward his own child, John Sandford, his followers, have lost faith. "If he is the true Ekl- inh he pretends to be, why has God turned against him?' thev ask. From starvation the adults are too | weak to work, They pray almost un ceasingly, "Moses" Holland savs that there is a devil in their midet wha is responsible for their troubles The town authorities have been notified and they in turn have called on the | state to aid in relieving the suffering at Shiloh.
